THE CHARACTERISTICS
The candidates must have the background, skills and abilities essential for excellence in educational leadership of a highly diverse independent charter school.
A Collaborative Leader who has the proven ability to build trust, promote a positive school climate and foster productive respectful relationships. A leader who demonstrates the ability to work with staff and partners in a cohesive and integrated way by bringing people together. A Team builder who has strong verbal, written and digital communication skills, is approachable, and is open and inclusive to new ideas brought forward from diverse school organizations. A leader, who demonstrates compassion, but has the ability to make hard decisions and has a successful record of building and maintaining positive working relationships with employee associations/unions.
A Visionary Leader who is excited about being in a small, unique, culturally diverse charter school, being visible within the school and engaged with the community in a meaningful and discernable way. A person who is able to work effectively with the Board of Trustees to foster a common vision and commitment and is able to build open, problem-solving relationships among all board members. Knows and actively supports each school board member and his or her self in performing their appropriate roles in charter school governance and activities. A politically astute leader who is willing to create and articulate a vision for Tubman, which is aligned with a results-oriented strategic plan that will move this charter to a new and improved level.
A Communicator who is approachable, accessible, possesses exceptional empathetic listening skills and can communicate clearly with all stakeholders; a “people person”. Communicates regularly and systematically with all stakeholder groups, both sharing information and genuinely seeking input before decisions are made. Respects and encourages parent involvement.

Requirements / Qualifications
Possession of a valid administrative credential issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) Required
Preferred experience in special education administration or program oversight, with knowledge of special education laws, policies, and compliance requirements (IDEA, Section 504, ADA)
Preferred experience with behavior-based Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) implementation within a charter school setting.
Minimum of 3-5 years of successful experience in as a principal, assistant principal, coordinator or other school leadership position within a school setting,
Experience in California Charter Schools required
Track record in successful partnership building with the community preferred; fundraising and marketing experience a plus.
Strong understanding of charter school law and governance
A valid California Drivers License
