The Business Development Manager role forms part of an enthusiastic and purpose driven team, who are passionate about helping businesses on their sustainability journeys.  The successful candidate will have knowledge of sustainability in business and is expected to identify the needs of a business to develop and close leads and sell our market-ready products, particularly focusing on the Built Environment sector and supply chain sales

What that means day to day

  • Manage lead progression to meet monthly targets.
  • Lead generation via outbound and in-person events. 
  • Respond to, and progress, incoming leads from phone calls, website enquiries and MQLs within 24 hours of receipt.
  • Product knowledge – to know and be able to effectively explain and sell all Planet Mark products and how they deliver business value to our members.
  • Engage opportunities within prospects or members supply chains.
  • Liaise and work closely with the marketing team to ensure target markets are receiving attention.
  • Record sales progression using the CRM and keep the database up to date.
  • Weekly meetings with the Sales Director to report progress against targets and discuss strategies for target customers.
  • Stay ahead of the numbers, providing accurate monthly forecasting on both volume and value.
  • Competitor analysis – to ensure knowledge of competitors is up to date and you are able to explain the differences between our program and others in order to progress sales.
  • Any other ad hoc duties that may be required.

What you’ll need to be successful

  • Proven experience in selling business services and/or software SAS sales, with a strong understanding of sales processes and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • A demonstrable knowledge, experience, and preferably a qualification in, sustainability and the environment. 
  • Must have a track record of closing sales.
  • Intelligent lead sourcing in target sectors.
  • 360-sales experience must be comfortable speaking on video and in telephone calls.
