Description
Our Client is scaling AI across core operations -- from document processing and knowledge systems to decision support and automation. They are looking for a Senior AI Engineer who combines strong Python skills, LLM system design expertise, and a deep sense of responsibility for output quality.

NOTE IF YOU RESIDE ABROAD: THIS POSITION REQUIRES MANDATORY RELOCATION TO VIENNA, AUSTRIA. FOLLOWING AN INITIAL 3-4 MONTH PERIOD OF FULLY REMOTE COOPERATION, THE ROLE TRANSITIONS TO A HYBRID, ON-SITE WORK MODEL BASED IN VIENNA.
Your role & responsibilities
- Design and implement end-to-end AI workflows integrated into real business processes
- Build and maintain Python-based AI systems (LLMs, embeddings, retrieval, orchestration)
- Work with large, heterogeneous datasets (ERP data, emails, documents, APIs, files)
- Design and manage vectorization pipelines and retrieval strategies
- Trace, monitor, and debug LLM calls, prompts, outputs, and failures
- Define and enforce quality, reliability, and evaluation standards for AI outputs
- Collaborate closely with product, business, and tech stakeholders
- Decide when AI is the right tool -- and when it is not
- Document architectures, trade-offs, and decisions clearly and pragmatically
Requirements
- Strong hands-on experience with Python in production environments
- Experience building systems with LLMs (OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, open-source models, etc.)
- Solid understanding of embeddings, vector databases, and retrieval patterns
- Experience with prompting, evaluation, tracing, and output quality control
- Ability to design AI systems that are robust, explainable, and maintainable
- Comfort working with ERP data and Microsoft systems
- Product mindset: you care about outcomes, not just models
- High sense of ownership and responsibility for system behavior
- Clear and structured communication; able to explain technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders
- Persistence, curiosity, and motivation to learn
- Experience integrating AI into real business workflows is a strong plus
