How you will contribute to revolutionizing electric aviation:
- Collaborate with Flight Test, Data, Telemetry, Charge, and IT teams to ensure seamless data transfer between all platforms.
- Design and deploy network architectures supporting data offload and live telemetry from airborne platforms to on-prem and cloud (AWS) endpoints.
- Design and deploy network architectures supporting connectivity from remote charge stations to cloud (AWS) endpoints.
- Configure and maintain secure, high-performance connectivity, leveraging technologies including VPNs (e.g., IPsec, Tailscale), satellite links (e.g., Starlink), and traditional WAN.
- Design, implement, and configure RF (HF, VHF, UHF) radio mesh networks to support redundant communication paths between aircraft and ground stations.
- Configure VLANs and tunnels to ensure proper traffic segmentation, isolation, and routing within mesh topologies.
- Implement and troubleshoot TCP and UDP-based transmissions, including real-time UDP multicast for streaming data.
- Design networks to accommodate multiple isolated or overlapping data flows with distinct security requirements.
- Monitor network performance, conduct proactive maintenance, and respond to incidents to assure service reliability.
- Maintain up-to-date documentation of network topology, configurations, and security controls.
- Stay current with industry best practices and provide guidance on new networking solutions for airborne, on-prem, remote, and cloud environments.
Minimum Qualifications:
- BS in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field—or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of professional network engineering experience.
- Demonstrated experience with both TCP and UDP protocol troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in VPN configuration and management (preference for experiential knowledge of Tailscale or similar mesh VPNs).
- Experience with network design in mixed (radio, satellite, cellular, etc.) connectivity environments.
- Hands-on experience with RF radio mesh networking technologies and protocols.
- Experience with corporate network topologies including firewalls, switches, and access points.
- Proficiency in VLAN configuration, management, and troubleshooting in complex network environments.
- Proficiency with Linux network configuration and troubleshooting (e.g., iptables, routing, interface management, performance tuning).
- Hands-on experience connecting embedded and/or IoT devices to IP networks in production environments.
- Working knowledge of cloud networking (AWS VPC, Direct Connect, site-to-site VPN, Azure VNet, etc.).
- Comfortable with CLI-based network device administration and common tools (Wireshark, tcpdump, etc.).
- Strong documentation and communication skills.
Above and Beyond Qualifications:
- Prior hands-on experience with airborne or vehicular telemetry/data offload networks.
- Familiarity with Starlink or similar satellite communications systems.
- Deep understanding of network security best practices, including traffic segmentation and zero-trust architectures.
- Experience implementing UDP multicast for live streaming, especially in challenging network conditions.
- AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, Networking Specialty) or equivalent.
- Experience in fast-paced, regulated environments such as aviation, defense, or transportation.
- Familiarity with network automation (e.g., Ansible, Python scripting for networking tasks).
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- While the role does not typically involve strenuous physical labor, candidates should be comfortable maneuvering within aircraft environments. Additionally, occasional travel may be necessary to provide on-site support at various locations.
