Here at Lucid Motors, we are at the forefront of developing advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving (AD) solutions. As an ADAS Calibration Engineer, you will be an integral part of our team, driving the product development and deployment process to deliver top-notch ADAS / AD systems and components to our valued customers. We are seeking individuals with a can-do attitude, a passion for perfection, and a hunger for continuous learning.
Your Role could include some or all of the areas below:
- Develop, implement, and refine calibration algorithms and methodologies for intrinsic and extrinsic parameters across multiple sensor types, including cameras, LiDARs, radars, IMUs, GNSS, and other perception sensors.
- Design, automate, and maintain offline (static in factory/lab) and online (dynamic in-field odometry) calibration workflows and pipelines, with a focus on robustness, repeatability, and scalability.
- Develop and configure physical calibration rigs and procedures for static and dynamic calibration, including vehicle-motion–based routines.
- Detect sensor mis-calibrations and build autonomous re-calibration capabilities using state estimation, odometry, and perception-driven methods.
- Define and implement test, validation, and quality processes to maintain calibration accuracy and consistency at scale across vehicle platforms.
- Collaborate closely with cross functional teams / projects such as Perception, Localization, SLAM, Mapping, Sensor Fusion, Hardware, Manufacturing, and Operations to integrate calibration into the broader autonomy stack.
- Contribute to and maintain the calibration codebase, integrating with localization pipelines, SLAM modules, and sensor fusion frameworks.
- Participate in mentoring junior engineers and driving technical excellence across calibration, perception, and localization domains.
- Work hands-on in lab and field test environments, including direct interaction with hardware, test vehicles, and diagnostic tools.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; PhD is a plus.
- 5+ years of industry experience in sensor calibration, robotics, autonomous systems, perception, or localization (3+ with a Master’s).
- Strong expertise in multi-sensor calibration, geometric computer vision, extrinsic/intrinsic calibration, and state estimation.
- Hands-on experience calibrating cameras, LiDARs, radars, IMUs, GNSS, wheel-speed sensors, and other vehicle perception sensors.
- Strong communication and mentoring skills, with a passion for collaborative development and continuous learning.
- Willingness to travel to support build activities, field testing, and issue resolution.
Preferred:
- Proficiency in C++ and Python.
- Familiarity with nonlinear optimization, state estimation, odometry, motion estimation, and sensor fusion principles.
- Ability to design and develop software pipelines and tools for calibration, sensor health monitoring, and diagnostic workflows.
- Experience with both offline factory calibration and online self-calibration techniques, including perception-driven and motion-based methods.
- Knowledge of calibration algorithms resilient to temperature, vibration, and environmental variations.
- Experience with HIL, EOL, simulation environments, or tooling used for calibration validation and sensor modeling.
- Direct experience with SLAM, SfM (Structure-from-Motion), localization, mapping, multi-view geometry, or autonomous driving development.
- Understanding of sensor noise models, time synchronization, coordinate frames, and world representation transforms.
- Experience building and shipping reusable software tools, frameworks, or libraries used by cross-functional engineering teams.
- Strong communication and mentoring skills, with a passion for collaborative development and continuous learning.
Additional Compensation and Benefits: Lucid offers a wide range of competitive benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability insurance, vacation, and 401k. The successful candidate may also be eligible to participate in Lucid’s equity program and/or a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing such programs.
