Scope of the role
The EU Gas Analyst will focus on analyzing European Gas markets and delivering actionable insights to support trading decisions. This role involves enhancing market models, producing forecasts, and identifying emerging trends, while working closely with traders and other analysts to develop a deeper understanding of Gunvor’s operations and the broader energy landscape.
The position offers a dynamic, fast-paced environment with the opportunity to make a tangible impact in the energy industry.
Key Responsibilities
Development and enhancement of supply-demand models for European gas markets, integrating historical trends and forward-looking indicators.
Use Python, SQL, and Excel to manipulate, visualize, and interpret large datasets to generate actionable forecasts and trading signals.
Apply advanced statistical methods and machine learning techniques to support scenario analysis, price forecasting, and optimization models.
Translate market intelligence and modeling outputs into clear, impactful insights for trading teams, senior leadership, and cross-functional partners.
Identify and propose new analytical frameworks or coverage areas based on emerging trends, regulatory changes, or structural shifts in the energy landscape.
Collaborate with IT and fellow analysts to design and improve internal analytics platforms, ensuring transparency and scalability across the desk.
Provide analytics-driven support for commercial decisions, pricing strategies, and structured transactions.
Mentor junior analysts and interns, offering guidance on modeling approaches, technical tools, and market fundamentals.
About You
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Data Science, or similar).
Solid grasp of European gas fundamentals, including market structures, regulatory frameworks, and infrastructure dynamics.
Proficiency in Python and SQL, with demonstrated experience working with large and complex datasets; advanced Excel knowledge.
Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, coupled with the ability to distill technical results into commercial insights.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, comfortable presenting to traders, risk managers, and senior stakeholders.
Strong attention to detail and commercial intuition.
Proven track record of working independently and managing multiple priorities in a deadline-driven trading environment.
Energetic team player who thrives in collaborative and entrepreneurial settings.
Fluent in English; additional European languages considered a plus.
