The Senior Manager, Utility & Technical Training will lead the strategy, development and execution of enterprise-wide utility and technical training programs that ensure team members have the skills and certifications necessary to perform safely and effectively.   The leader will in this role will partner with the business, subject matter experts, and learning professionals to deliver high-impact learning experiences aligned with organizational goals and required training to ensure compliance and safety objectives are met. 

 

Job Responsibilities:

 

Utility & Technical Training Leadership

  • Develops and implements technical training strategies, policies and programs which support the enterprise-wide workforce development needs and goals. 
  • Leads critical apprenticeship training programs for electrical operations teams including state registration and Joint Apprenticeship Training Council.
  • Stays connected to industry trends and technology that will enable future skill development.
  • Provides leadership to the Utility Technical Training staff by recruiting, developing, and coaching direct and indirect staff.
  • Develops, documents, and manages the department budget. Develops mitigation plans as required to ensure departmental budget variances are managed and the approved budget is met.
  • Tracks and analyzes data to tell the story within the data, identifying trends, gaps and improvement areas to ensure we have the required training and development approach for team members to execute their assigned job responsibilities effectively, efficiently, and safely.
  • Oversees the creation of training content (instructor led, online/virtual and hands on) working closely with SME’s and content designers.
  • Ensures the Learning Management System (LMS) is maximized to track and monitor training records, compliance and provide meaningful data. 
  • Oversees the company training facilities and ensures equipment and materials are suitable for effective learning.
  • Leads utility and technical training program with a focus on compliance with OSHA, Company Requirements, NERC, DOT and other enterprise-wide regulations by proactively monitoring developments in these areas and updating training materials.
  • Ensure a comprehensive training schedule that is proactively communicated with business leaders and stakeholders to ensure team members are in compliance and skilled in the job responsibilities for their role. 
  • Oversee the coordination of new hire trainings according to their specific job function and training profile across the organization.
  • Collaborate with operations, engineering, transportation, metering, HR and EHS to assess training and staffing needs are met, ensuring workforce readiness enterprise-wide.
  • Proactively connect with union, external training providers, technical schools and/or certifying bodies to build alignment and support.
  • Establish KPI’s to evaluate effectiveness of training and learning transfer of knowledge.

Education/Experience Required:

· Bachelor’s degree in Business, Education, Engineering, EHS, Human Resources, or related field or equivalent experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

· Established and ongoing relationships with technical training, utility focus groups, and workforce development organizations, as well as partners and potential partners.

· Electric utility experience including Transmission & Distribution, construction, and/or substation experience preferred.

· Three to five (3-5) years of prior people management experience is desired.

 

Skills and Abilities Contributing to Success in this Role Include

· Experience with administering and supporting LMS.
