The opportunity

Our Waste Services team have an opportunity available for a motivated and proactive individual to join their team at the Salamander Bay Waste Transfer Station.

Joining our team as a Waste Operator will see you working across a broad scope, not only providing positive customer service to our community, but also performing duties across operating plant, working on the floor, and assisting the weighbridge as required.

This role requires you to have experience in operating plant such as backhoes and forklifts, and hold the relevant competencies. The safety of our team and the community is paramount, so a demonstrated ability to work within all WHS requirements is essential. 

Communication is key in this role, allowing you to be an effective team player and someone the community looks to for advice and assistance within the Waste Transfer Station. 

This is a contract opportunity up until 30 June 2026.

  • This is a contract opportunity – working full-time 38 hours / week + access to a flexible working arrangement + ability to work overtime hours as desired
  • Base Salary Range: $66,578 to $71,535 pa based on 38 hours / week + 12% superannuation + adverse work allowance + $2,464 retention allowance 
  • You will be working from PSC Salamander Bay Waste Transfer Station

  • Safe and effective operation of allocated plant items within all WHS and legal requirements
  • Sorting of Waste to achieve resource recovery and to remove unsuitable waste from designated waste streams
  • Work across plant operation, manual floor work, and customer service within the weighbridge operations

We’re all about putting the right people, in the right role! Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • A Certification III in Waste Management
  • Demonstrated safe and effective operation of a frontend loader/backhoe to a ‘self load’ capability standard when required, and appropriate WorkCover or equivalent accreditation
  • Demonstrated history of manual labouring experience and safe manual handling techniques
  • Demonstrated communication skills and experience working within a customer facing environment
