Engineering Manager (Player-Coach) - AI & Real-Time Data Platform
Location: On site - San Francisco or New York
We are an ambitious, high-growth AI and Media startup, redefining how organizations comprehend, summarize, and act on insights from real-time traditional and social media data (text, audio, and video). We are seeking a hands-on Engineering Manager to build, lead, and scale our engineering team, driving technical excellence and a high-velocity culture as we rapidly expand our enterprise-grade platform.
This is a critical player-coach role where you will blend technical leadership with hands-on contribution. You will set the technical direction for our stack, scale our infrastructure for enterprise customers, and build a high-performing team. Success requires a constant balance between shipping with urgency to meet customer demands and making sound architectural decisions to ensure long-term scalability and reliability.
What You Will Do:
- Team Leadership: Build and lead the team, recruiting, mentoring, and growing a high-performing group of engineers while fostering a culture of ownership, speed, and rigor.
- Technical Direction: Set the technical direction by making foundational architecture and infrastructure decisions across our modern web and data stack.
- Ship with Urgency: Balance short-term customer needs with long-term scalability, ensuring the team prioritizes high-leverage work and avoids analysis paralysis.
- Stay Hands-On: Roll up your sleeves to debug, prototype, and ship when needed, maintaining your technical edge while coaching and managing.
- Reliability at Scale: Lead the evolution of our cloud infrastructure, data pipelines, and CI/CD processes to support enterprise-grade customers reliably.
- Bridge & Solutions: Work closely with Product and Customer Success teams to understand user pain points and quickly translate them into technical solutions.
Requirements
- Experience: 5 – 8 years of experience as a full-stack software engineer, with at least 2 years spent managing or leading more junior team members.
- Core Tech Stack: Strong technical depth and proficiency in our core stack: TypeScript, React, Python, and Node.
- Infrastructure: Strong experience with cloud infrastructure, data pipelines, and distributed systems (AWS/GCP, SQL/NoSQL).
- Mindset: Proven ability to act as a player-coach, designing complex systems while actively contributing code.
- Work Ethic: Bias for action, decisive, and pragmatic in fast-moving environments, focused on shipping with rigor.
Location & Logistics:
- Location: In-person in our New York City or San Francisco offices (Full-Time position).
- Visa: Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
Benefits
- Salary & Equity: Highly competitive base salary range of $200,000 – $225,000 per year, plus Competitive Equity (stock options).
- Healthcare: Full Healthcare Coverage (Medical, Dental, Vision) for peace of mind.
- Time Off: Unlimited PTO (Paid Time Off).
- Impact: Foundational leadership role in a high-growth company (10% month-over-month) aimed at being the definitive vertical AI company for communications.
- Culture: Join a team that prioritizes ownership, speed, and rigor, with a flat, open structure that rewards impact.
