A Day in the Life
You’ll be joining a high-performing AI and Algorithm team within the Acute Care and Monitoring (ACM) Operating Unit, headquartered in Boulder, Colorado. Our Edinburgh-based team supports both novel sensor research and the enhancement of mature, field-deployed products. ACM is committed to driving innovation and long-term growth through excellence in research and commercialization. We’re seeking a versatile and forward-thinking Artificial Intelligence and Algorithm Engineer to join our world-class R&D team. In this role, you’ll explore how AI, machine learning, and traditional algorithmic techniques can enhance our products—ultimately improving user experience and patient outcomes. Our vital signs monitoring equipment has leveraged artificial neural networks (ANNs) for over two decades, and we continue to lead the way in intelligent healthcare solutions. Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:
- Design, develop, and validate AI and algorithmic solutions for clinical decision support and patient monitoring
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including software, hardware, clinical, and product development throughout the full lifecycle
- Lead innovation across exploratory research and production-level projects
- Analyze physiological signals and data to extract meaningful insights and improve system performance
- Contribute to technical documentation, regulatory submissions, and knowledge sharing across teams.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
- Degree in a numerate discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Biomedical Engineering)
- Solid grasp of signal processing techniques: sampling, filtering, algorithm logic, etc. and their practical implementation
- Strong understanding of machine learning paradigms including deep learning architectures such as CNNs, RNNs, Transformers., etc
- Proficiency in Python and ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn)
- Familiarity with embedded ML (e.g., TinyML) and real-time data processing
- Experience with CI/CD tools and version control systems (e.g., Git/GitHub, Docker, Jira)
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment with a collaborative mindset.
Experience with C++, MATLAB, or other scientific computing environments and knowledge of database systems and query languages (e.g., SQL) as well as exposure to edge AI deployment and optimization techniques would be a clear advantage. Understanding of regulatory and safety considerations in medical device development would be a plus.
