Job Summary

Responsible for ensuring the quality and integrity of underwriting decisions and processes as well as providing exceptional service to all stakeholders involved. This requires extensive knowledge of our underwriting guidelines including agency, jumbo, and possible government loans and the ability to address complex loan scenarios. The role requires the ability to manage a pipeline of loans assigned each day proactively and effectively while maintaining SLAs on all job tasks. In addition, the ability to communicate underwriting decisions and needed documentation to Sales and Broker Clients accurately and clearly.

  • Underwrite a wide range of mortgage loans, including Agency (FNMA/FHLMC) and Non-Agency (Jumbo, Non-QM) products.
  • Proactively manage an assigned loan pipeline with full ownership and accountability.
  • Review all loan documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company and investor guidelines.
  • Perform comprehensive mortgage credit analysis—both with and without automated underwriting systems (DU/LPA)—to determine borrower eligibility. This includes reviewing credit packages, verifying income and assets, calculating borrower investment, analyzing credit history, and assessing housing and debt obligations.
  • Analyze supporting documents such as credit reports, income documentation, asset statements, appraisals, and title reports to evaluate overall loan risk.
  • Identify and request missing documentation needed to complete underwriting decisions, ensuring requests are clear, concise, and prescriptive.
  • Ensure loans meet underwriting standards, investor guidelines and regulatory requirements (e.g., TRID, RESPA, TILA).
  • Assess borrower risk, property valuation, and potential fraud indicators; recommend conditions or alternative structures as needed to mitigate risk.
  • Deliver clear, timely, and professional communication of underwriting decisions, conditions, and documentation requirements to Sales, Brokers, and other stakeholders.
  • Partner with Operations, Sales, and Clients to promote ResiCentral’s underwriting philosophy and provide education when needed.
  • Develop expertise in ResiCentral’s proprietary software and internal technology platforms to streamline workflow and decisioning.

 

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Expert-level knowledge of Agency (FNMA/FHLMC) and Non-Agency (Jumbo, Non-QM) guidelines.
  • Proficiency with automated underwriting systems (DU and LPA) and advanced capability in manual underwriting for Jumbo and Non-QM loans.
  • Proven ability to analyze and resolve complex loan scenarios with accuracy and sound judgment
  • Highly motivated self-starter with strong ethics, accountability and professionalism.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while maintaining precision and meeting deadlines.
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work independently when required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain underwriting decisions to both internal teams and external partners.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and unwavering commitment to compliance and accuracy.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required. BA or BS highly desired.
  • 7+ years of mortgage experience required.
  • 5+ years of experience underwriting both Agencies (FNMA/FHLMC) and Non-Agency (Jumbo, NQM) loan products required.
  • 4+ years of experience reviewing appraisal required.
  • Encompass LOS experience required. 
  • FHA Direct Endorsement (DE) and/or VA LAPP/SAR designation desired.
