Equinox VGM is currently inviting applications for a Reverse Circulation (RC) Drilling Supervisor to join our growing team as the company transitions from mine construction to mine operations.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Project Manager – RC Drilling, the Reverse Circulation (RC) Drilling Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all RC drilling operations on site, ensuring that drilling activities are carried out safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project specifications and company policies. The supervisor leads drilling crews, manages equipment performance, monitors sample quality, and ensures adherence to environmental and safety standards.
This is a fixed term position located at the Mine site, working 14 days in/14 days out rotation.
Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
Operational Oversight
- Supervise and coordinate daily RC drilling operations to achieve production targets.
- Plan and execute drilling programs in collaboration with Geologists.
- Ensure accurate hole positioning, depth, and sampling procedures.
- Monitor drilling parameters (air pressure, bit performance, penetration rate, etc.) to optimize efficiency and sample recovery.
- Oversee maintenance and repairs of drilling rigs, compressors, boosters, and auxiliary equipment.
- Manage logistics for consumables, spare parts, and fuel supplies.
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce compliance with site-specific safety procedures, environmental regulations, and company HSE policies.
- Conduct pre-start meetings, safety toolbox talks, and risk assessments.
- Identify and report potential hazards or incidents promptly.
- Ensure all crew members are trained, competent, and equipped with proper PPE.
Team Leadership
- Supervise drillers, mechanics, and support staff on site.
- Provide coaching, performance feedback, and skills development.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and safety.
Quality Control & Reporting
- Oversee sampling integrity and contamination control.
- Ensure all drilling data (depths, samples, equipment logs) are accurately recorded and reported.
- Submit daily drilling reports, production summaries, and equipment status updates to the project manager.
- Liaise with geologists to ensure samples meet project requirements.
Equipment & Maintenance
- Schedule and supervise regular maintenance and servicing of RC rigs and support equipment.
- Troubleshoot mechanical or operational issues to minimize downtime.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment usage and maintenance history.
Education and Experience Required:
- Minimum high school diploma; or a significant amount of related experience in a similar role.
- Minimum of 5–10 years’ experience in RC drilling, including at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Proven experience with RC rigs such as Schramm, Atlas Copco, or Sandvik models.
- Strong understanding of sampling systems, and downhole tools.
- Mechanical aptitude and understanding of rig maintenance.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Proficient in report writing and use of basic computer applications (Excel, Word, drilling software).
Skills and Knowledge:
- Experience in remote or fly-in-fly-out operations.
- Familiarity with geological sampling procedures and QA/QC standards.
- Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability to challenging field conditions.
- Commitment to continuous improvement and safe work practices.
- Ability to work long shifts in remote environments.
- Fit to perform field-based tasks including lifting, climbing, and exposure to varying weather conditions
