Job Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to provide quality, school-based intervention services to children who are presenting with significant hearing impairment or are deaf. This position provide quality, discipline-specific treatment for children with developmental delays, various disabilities, and autism spectrum disorders (ASD). The DHH Teacher will evaluate children and will develop and monitor individualized goals and plans according to treatment plans and IEPs. Administer standardized assessments and provide parent education and support. Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services are provided to students who have a documented hearing impairment and who are determined eligible for services through the IEP or 504 process. Pay range dependent upon experience

Requirements / Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSES: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience (4+ years) in a related field. 1 year directly related experience in a pediatric setting. Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or another visual-manual communication system, as well as knowledge of other communication methods such as lip reading and auditory training Ability to pass background/fingerprint clearance, health screenings and provide/obtain immunizations (TB) valid within the last year. Current CA Board License Valid Driver’s License, proof of auto insurance, and reliable transportation excluding virtual providers only. Ability to travel to school sites and/or clinic for in-person providers. Virtual providers are exempt from this requirement. COMPETENCIES: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Enthusiastic, Professional, Responsible Dedicated to work with children with special needs. Ethical Personal Effectiveness/Credibility Communicate in the spirit of cooperation, compassion and openness. Demonstrate cultural competence thorough understanding others cultures, understanding cultural differences and valuing the importance of culture and valuing the difference. Intermediate skills in Microsoft and google documents.

SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Possess a clinical knowledge of hearing impairments, development, and specialized educational needs. Provide language and communication instruction to students who are deaf or hard of hearing, using methods such as sign language, lip reading, and auditory training Assessing the communication and language needs of each student and developing individualized education plans (IEPs) or 504’s to meet those needs on new referrals and for three-year re-evaluation. Participate as a specialist in the area of hearing impairment in determining eligibility. Providing support to students in the classroom, including interpreting for them during lectures and helping them to communicate with their peers and teachers Providing support to families of students who are deaf or hard of hearing, including helping them to learn about and use different communication methods. Assist teams to determine assistive technology needs and provide training to ensure access to specially designed instruction and the general education curriculum. ADDITIONAL DUTIES: Participate in the preparation and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEP) or Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSP) for identified students on caseload. Prepare records and reports for eligibility evaluations, services IEP/IFSP and transitions according to program procedures or as directed. Demonstrate knowledge of and follow special education rules, regulations, procedures and timelines of the special education code. Monitor programs using observation, data collection and pre-post assessment. Serve as a resource consultant and trainer to provide specialized suggestions and/or materials for use by educations and/or parents and assist with registering students with the appropriate agencies that serve the Hearing Impaired. Manage multiple priorities and timelines. Performing administrative tasks, such as preparing and grading assignments, maintaining records, and communicating with parents and guardians
