Description

JOB SUMMARY

Provides professional nursing care for office patients using established standards and practices consistent with Valley Health Care Inc.’s policies. The position consists of both clinical and non-clinical duties. The nurse does not work for one provider exclusively but is part of a team of caregivers who work with various providers depending on the demands in the office; being a team player is essential.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for understanding differences and adjusting care as related to age and developmental level from pediatric to geriatric ranges.
  • Assesses the medical needs of the patient.
  • Administers medication
  • Perform nursing care procedures safely and effectively
  • Demonstrates understanding of and adheres to Infection Control Policies
  • Assists other team members in the clinical area by providing direct and indirect patient care
  • Must understand patient charts, provider’s orders, and medication orders to communicate with patients, family, and staff.
  • Prepares and maintains all aspects of medical record, including tracking of all ordered tests and results required.
  • Maintains a safe work environment.
  • Helps to maintain effective working relationships with patients, family, and staff.
  • Able to answer telephone, send letters, and triage patients over the telephone to determine the acuity of the visit and the visit-length for scheduling purposes.
  • Complete specific competency skills checklist required for job roles.
  • Perform clia waived testing as indicated.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities.
  • Participation in community projects for community well-being expected.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

· Current State of West Virginia Licensed Practical Nurse license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Licensed Practical Nurse with current licensure for the state of WV. One year experience in a clinical setting is preferred. Current BLS (CPR) certification or recertification required or obtain certification within one month of hire. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Must possess the ability to deal with staff, providers, visitors, vendors, patients, and the general public in a tactful, diplomatic, and pleasant manner. Must be capable of clear and timely written/verbal communication with peers, professional staff, providers, and management. Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of and interest in community health and primary care practice environments.
  • Solid relationship building and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate and drive change.
  • High degree of professional maturity, commitment to excellence, independence, flexibility, initiative and time management skills.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of protocols, procedures, and standards within area of nursing expertise.
  • Ability to provide operational guidance and leadership to technical staff in area of specialty.
  • Knowledge of related continuing education requirements related to license.
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to patients.

Understanding of Health Care Laws and Regulations

Must have the ability to follow HIPAA guidelines as well as an understanding of policies and procedures regarding medical records put in place by the Federal Government, Medicaid, Medicare, and WV Behavioral Health Laws put forth by the WV Department of Health and Human Resources.

Must listen to the customer, understand the customer, do what needs to be done to meet the customer’s expectations, and take ownership for the customer experience.

Computer Literacy

Knowledge of basic computer software (MS Office – Word, Excel, and Outlook) and the willingness and ability to learn electronic medical records software. 

Reasoning Ability

Must demonstrate the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret various instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Must be able to read and interpret medical and work environment related documents involving patient care, program descriptions, government regulations and VHC policy and procedures.
