Key Responsibilities:
United States: 6-9 Month contract
- Prepare and file sales tax returns and coordinate timely payments and account reconciliations, including temporary staffing services across multiple jurisdictions
- Manage property and franchise tax filings, including registrations in new staffing locations
- Oversee business license renewals to maintain operational compliance across U.S. jurisdictions
- Support corporate income tax filings in collaboration with third-party advisors
- Ensure registration and tax compliance when expanding staffing operations into new U.S. states
- Handle environmental and industry-specific fee filings, including GHG reporting
- Maintain burden rate calculations that reflect the nuances of payroll-heavy staffing operations
- Prepare timely group tax reporting to senior finance leadership
Canada:
- Prepare, file, and remit all VAT (GST/HST, QST etc.) filings and payments, especially in provinces with active staffing contracts
- Address withholding tax obligations for contractors and employees
- Support corporate income tax filings and manage provincial tax requirements
- Compile Canadian tax reporting for internal and group-wide finance use
Cross-Functional Support:
- Partner with Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, and Billing teams to ensure tax treatment is accurate for temp placements, consultant billing, and vendor payments
- Coordinate responses for internal and external tax audits
- Guide operational teams on tax implications of workforce mobilization across states/provinces
General/Industry-Relevant Duties:
- Monitor changes to tax laws affecting the employment services sector and ensure compliance across business lines
- Maintain detailed tax calendars covering frequent filing obligations across multiple jurisdictions
- Assist in preparing tax provisions, especially related to temporary labor and contingent workforce revenue models
- Support transfer pricing documentation, focusing on intercompany staffing allocations
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or Canadian equivalent preferred
- 3–5 years of tax experience, ideally in a multi-state staffing, employment, or professional services environment
- Strong understanding of sales tax, VAT, payroll-related tax in the U.S. and Canada
- Proficiency with tax software and ERPs like Microsoft GP, SAP
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage high-volume, fast-paced tax schedules
