About the Team
The Director, Automation Engineering is a People Leadership role within the Fulfillment Engineering team. The purpose of this role is to lead the engineering automation design and / or implementation across the entire eCommerce fulfillment center network. The network includes automated facilities, manual Non-Sortable facilities, internalized parcel & consolidation centers, two-tier storage centers, and legacy assets.
You will report to the Senior / Group Director, Automation Engineering. This is a role based in Bentonville, AR, a full relocation package is available, but we are not considering remote candidates at this time. Anticipated travel for this role is up to 50%.
What you’ll do….
Automation Implementation: Lead a team of implementation engineers that will manage project installations across the eCommerce fulfillment network. These installations will include projects at both brownfield and greenfield sites. Ensuring the projects are executed with a high degree of safety, on-time completion, and under budget will be firm requirements
Vendor Management: you will manage site installation, manage project budgets (incl. managing POs), ensure site safety standards are upheld, and manage schedule to ensure all milestones are achieved.
Project Planning: Lead developing the project schedule and budget prior to the capital approval will be the responsibility of this role. Ensuring a firm understanding of the scope and partnering with engineering design leads to create the project execution plan
Automation Integration: Identify considerations for bringing in new execution ways of working by working closely with Global Tech and Construction leaders. (Module design to reduce install duration, etc.)
Continuous Improvement: Lead the feedback process from the installation of automation systems, racking, or machine tool design back into the firm engineering process to avoid future waste. Drive improvement through the use of real world learnings
Data and Digital Literacy: Leverage data analysis tools to explore highly complex data, develop and test hypotheses, influence strategic work, and build and provide insights to construct stories, build budgets, and make decisions
Engineering Economics: Influence the usage of variety of financial tools, techniques, and approaches and lead building business cases and post audit analysis
Process Flow Design: you will interpret information to quantify the anticipate outcome of supply chain decisions, including describing typical tasks with using and managing suppliers, understanding issues for inbound and outbound logistics, and describe basic logistical processes using a variety of business process design tools and techniques
Operational Excellence: you will explain operational functions and key functional roles, clarify the role of each department or unit, and describe the interdependence of support functions
Automation System Design: you will promote the usage of automation machineries, participate in implementation and training, conduct cost-benefit analyses of machineries, and monitor actual versus planned
Mechatronics: you will create views of objects in 2 and 3 dimensions, create perspective drawings and orthogonal views, use design and visualization for basic drafting, and participate in projects that modify existing electrical systems, equipment, and components – including designing, testing, implementing, monitoring, and repairing mechanical components
Advanced Analytics: you will apply data analysis and data modeling techniques to establish, modify, and maintain data structures and associated components and apply specific computing languages and tools in machine learning (R, Python, etc.)

- You have an undergraduate degree, preferred Engineering in any discipline.
- You have a graduate degree (preferred, but not required)
- At least 7 years of Engineering, construction, and / or automation implementation. Experience in Supply Chain fulfillment or distribution ASRS systems is a bonus!
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification desirable.

The annual salary range for this position is $130,000.00 - $260,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :

Minimum Qualifications...

Option 1: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field and 5 years’ experience in Engineering, supply chain, or a related area. Option 2: 7years’ experience in Engineering, supply chain, or a related area.
3 years’ supervisory experience.
