Objective:

The Supervisor – Back of Plant Operations oversees all vehicle movement and logistics activities within the plant’s dispatch yard, ensuring the efficient, safe, and timely transportation of finished vehicles from production lines to storage, loading areas, or external transport carriers. This role coordinates between production, quality, yard operations, and logistics teams to maintain seamless vehicle flow and dispatch operations.

Essential Responsibilities:

    • Supervise daily back-of-plant vehicle handling, staging, and loading operations.
    • Ensure smooth vehicle flow from end-of-line (EOL) inspection to the shipping yard.
    • Monitor inbound and outbound transportation schedules to meet delivery targets.
    • Lead and manage a team of yard drivers, material handlers, and loading staff.
    • Assign daily tasks and ensure adherence to safety and quality standards.
    • Conduct regular performance evaluations and training for team members.
    • Liaise with production, quality assurance, and dispatch departments to ensure timely release of finished vehicles.
    • Communicate with transporters, carriers, and logistics service providers regarding load planning and dispatch priorities.
    • Update management on operational performance, bottlenecks, and improvement areas.
    • Enforce compliance with all plant safety and environmental regulations.
    • Conduct vehicle inspection checks to prevent damage during movement or loading.
    • Ensure all documentation (shipping lists, gate passes, carrier records) is accurate and complete.
    • Monitor KPIs such as vehicle dwell time, on-time loading, and transport turnaround.
    • Identify and implement process improvements to increase operational efficiency.
    • Support lean logistics and 5S initiatives within the back-of-plant area.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: 3–5 years of experience in automotive logistics, yard management, or transportation operations, with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Skills:
    • Strong leadership and team management skills
    • Knowledge of vehicle logistics and transport loading methods (rail, truck, etc.)
    • Proficient in MS Office and logistics management systems (SAP, Yard Management Systems preferred)
    • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
    • Understanding of safety standards and quality procedures in automotive plants
