Job Summary

Working as a student member of a research team, the Research Lab Student serves in a data system support capacity to assist others in completing work that advances magnetic resonance imaging technology and its application within a radiation oncology and healthcare setting.


 

Qualifications

Working under the direct supervision of the principal investigator or designee, the student will complete a wide range of tasks to learn and support research and development activities.  Collaborate closely with the PI and team to ensure accuracy, completeness and applicability of work.  Duties include:

  • Use understanding of medical physics and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to approach and execute responsibilities in a healthcare setting.
  • Apply, modify and write basic code to support the effective operation of the MR imaging system and the analysis of produced images, utilizing appropriate software languages.
  • Ensure quality of work through review and testing.
  • Participate in work that expands the current use of the system, such as applying existing and newly developed methods to other imaging needs.
  • Identify and recommend novel settings, techniques and technologies to support projects.
  • Attend and actively engage in staff meetings; may attend trainings and off-site meetings or conferences.
  • Learn and apply information, training and skills to support growth in medical physics.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent required. Completed college courses on physics and mathematics preferred.

Experience
Prior experience in an office and/or research/laboratory setting 0-1 year preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Some understanding of the principles of medical physics, especially magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and their application in a healthcare setting
  • Strong analytical and organization skills
  • Skilled in the use of computer systems and languages, including Python and Matlab
  • Attention to detail is a must
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Willingness to take on new tasks
  • Must be self-motivated
  • Excellent collaboration skills to work within a team as well as to work independently
