Job Summary

The Student Orientation Advisor will work with the Office of Student Orientation, Leadership and Engagement (SOLE) to assist perspective and current University students as it relates to orientation and student engagement. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in providing cross-functional student support in the areas of new student orientation, transition and involvement. Respond to phone, correspondence, and email inquiries from prospective and current students and their family members relating to enrollment-transition/student engagement services.

  • Assist with the coordination of new student orientation programs that directly impact incoming students and their families. Provide assistance in registering new students and their families for available orientation programs.

  • Assist students in planning co-curricular programs that maintain a culture of student involvement by processing event requests and other related paperwork submitted.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience in a student services capacity.

  • Enrolled at least half-time, 6 credit hours per semester for undergraduate and 3 credit hours per semester for graduates.

  • Maintain a TAMIU overall GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate students and 3.0 for graduates' students.

  • Must meet all other requirements as stated in TAMIU’s Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (SAPP).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong computer knowledge.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with university students, staff, and the general public.

  • Ability to handle diverse problems and situations and find solutions.

  • Ability to quickly learn the functions of different offices at the University, the process and procedures required of students to achieve their goals at those offices, and the kinds of documents and forms needed for sundry situations.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses

  • Must possess a valid Driver's license.

Other Requirements

  • Position requires on campus, face-to-face interactions.

  • Position requires maintaining a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.

  • Some evening and weekend work may be required.

  • Work schedules are created by the department based on departmental needs but ensure it does not conflict with class schedule.

  • Promptly complete all required training.

  • Input hours and submit time sheet biweekly.  

  • Some evening and weekend work may be required.

  • Completed application must include resume and cover letter.

Pay of Rate: $9.00/hour for up to 19 hours weekly
