Department: Engineering / Quality Assurance
Reports To: Engineering Manager / QA Lead
FLSA Status: Exempt / Full-time

Salary Range:  $110,000-$140,000 Annually

Summary:
The Senior Test Engineer is responsible for developing and executing practical test plans and procedures to verify that products meet performance, safety, and reliability expectations. The ideal candidate has a computer engineering background and a solid understanding of both software, firmware and electronic concepts as they relate to testing. This role involves interpreting and refining requirements, working in DOORS and/or Jama, helping translate requirements into efficient test plans and procedures, and ensuring effective test coverage within project constraints. The engineer will develop and maintain test setups, test scripts, troubleshoot issues, analyze results, and provide clear feedback to design, production, and quality teams. As part of the Aeronix engineering organization, this role also contributes hands-on to continuous improvement of test methods, documentation, and overall product validation processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Program Management, Software, Electrical, and Mechanical engineers on testing of electronic and software products.
  • Review requirements and specifications for clarity, completeness, and testability.
  • Develop, maintain, and automate test plans, procedures, protocols, and scripts aligned with product and system requirements captured in DOORS or Jama.
  • Import, organize, and manage requirements from customer specifications or system design documents into DOORS or Jama modules.
  • Create and maintain traceability links between system, subsystem, software, hardware, and mechanical requirements.
  • Conduct regression, performance, functional, and usability testing using both manual and automated approaches.
  • Maintain and enhance automated test frameworks and scripts to improve efficiency and coverage.
  • Help establish verification methods (analysis, inspection, test), test procedures, test cases, and expected results.
  • Develop and maintain traceability matrices to ensure complete requirement coverage and compliance.
  • Help link all test artifacts, including plans, procedures, automated scripts, and results back to the originating requirements to provide robust verification evidence.

  • Execute functional, performance, environmental, and reliability tests to confirm conformance to engineering specifications and customer requirements.
  • Document, analyze, and communicate test results and non-conformances through structured reports and stakeholder reviews.
  • Participate in root cause and corrective action (RCCA) activities to prevent recurrence of test or field failures.
  • Help to improve test methods, automation, tools, and documentation practices for greater efficiency, traceability, and coverage.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical, Industrial, or related field) or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in product or systems testing preferred.
  • Experience in developing requirements, performing stakeholder analysis and creating validation and verification procedures.
  • Experience with Requirements frameworks, especially DOORS, Jama and Excel.
  • Experience with testing equipment, instrumentation, and data acquisition tools.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with programming/scripting languages (e.g., C, Python, C#).
  • Proficiency in test automation tools (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, JUnit, TestNG) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Ethernet and other networking communications is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance prior to the commencement of employment.
