ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Ensure that all HPSI safety procedures, rules and regulations are followed and met.
- Verify the accuracy of foundation installations and hole drilling (e.g., propulsion motors, intermediate bearings) through manual measurements and inspection techniques to ensure compliance with engineering specifications.
- Confirm proper positioning of equipment after landing operations.
- Review and approve accuracy reports following structural welding activities.
- Setup and operate laser measurement and alignment system. Record and interpret results.
- Instruct production on alignment steps or adjustments to make in order to meet alignment requirements. For very fine adjustments you may need to make the adjustments yourself.
- Witness installation tasks and inspection steps to ensure compliance with engineering specifications.
- Take and record clearance measurements.
- Oversee hydraulic push-up operations, including directing start/stop sequences and monitoring gauge readings. Record results.
- Inspect machining operations performed by production, verify accuracy and quality.
- Supervise shaft preparation for strain gauge installation and coordinate with technicians performing the application.
- Interpret strain gauge readings and provide adjustment guidance based on results.
- Exercise technical judgment to validate compliance with specifications and approve or halt subsequent procedures.
- Perform final alignment verification through measurement checks, strain gauge readings, and jack-up assessments.
- Continuously monitor and re-validate alignment integrity by retaking strain gauge and jack-up measurements after each procedural step.
- Prepare and distribute propulsion line alignment reports.
- Provide engineering support to production on other alignment critical equipment such as thrusters, anchor windlasses, and mooring winches.
- Assist with development of build methods by determining installation sequences, alignment steps, and required checks; implement lessons learned to optimize the ship construction process, identify key inspection points. Collaborate cross-functionally with Planning, Production, and Production Engineering teams.
- Assist with creation of detailed Installation and Alignment Procedures, including making drawings and performing calculations for machinery alignment.
- Participate in vessel sea trials. Take alignment and jack-up measurements, including inside the main engine, and prepare alignment reports.
- Maintain inventory of tools, instruments, and gauges, including calibration as necessary.
- Maintain working knowledge and monitor development of classification and regulatory rules and requirements.
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTY
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Naval Architecture is required
- Minimum 2 years’ experience with propulsion equipment and propulsion shaft alignment procedures and measuring equipment is required
- Proficiency with MS Office and 2D CAD systems, such as AutoCAD is required
- Experience with using a 3D CAD system. Experience with Aveva PDMS, Aveva Marine, or Tribon is a plus
- Proficiency with metric system
- Experience with an ERP system, such as SAP is a plus
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The Outfitting Production Engineer should expect to engage in regular field work in the shipyard's fabrication shops, dry docks, warehouse, and onboard vessels as part of the above activities. Environmental exposures are similar to those found in most heavy industrial settings and may include noise, heat, cold, vibration, dust, fumes and smoke. Work may be carried on indoors or outdoors and may involve exposure to inclement weather conditions.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is an on-site, full-time, salaried position. Monday through Friday with flexible start time.
