What you'll do:We're seeking highly motivated software engineer interns to join our teams, responsible for designing and building, Viasat's robust and flexible tactical network solutions.
Our teams focus on innovation and creativity, enabling us to stay ahead of the curve in the constantly evolving communications for our government partners. By using their expertise and innovative spirit, these teams at Viasat are helping to bridge the digital divide and connect tactical users worldwide.
The day-to-day:As a software engineer intern working in Tactical Communications Solutions you will be responsible for several aspects of the products.
- Interns will work on variety of projects including embedded (C, C++) to full stack web services development (Python, Go, AWS, Google Cloud)
- You will work with our tactical communications project teams, getting hands-on experience solving problems, building, operating and validating solutions for complex networks between the edge and the cloud
- Develop, test, and deploy software and networking applications
- Implement automation solutions to streamline workflows and reduce manual effort
- Participate in code reviews and regular team meetings
- Collaborate with other developers and product managers
Internship Program Details:
You will work onsite at a Viasat office location for the duration of your internship. Viasat embraces a flexible work environment and onsite/hybrid work is determined by individual roles and teams.
Housing and relocation assistance are available to interns pending eligibility.
To ensure equity across our intern population, intern compensation is pre-determined based on a variety of factors including: role, location, and final graduation date. Intern compensation is non-negotiable.
Requirements:
Education: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related field
To be eligible for this position your final graduation date must fall between December 2026 and June 2028
Internship Dates: You must be available to work 40 hours/week for the full duration of the internship program as outlined in the cohort dates below. Limited exceptions may be granted. Viasat offers two options based on semester and quarter academic calendars:
Cohort 1: May 18, 2026 – August 14, 2026
Cohort 2: June 22, 2026 – September 18, 2026
Citizenship: This position requires U.S. citizenship
Additional:
Knowledge of full-stack development and networking protocols
Knowledge of cloud infrastructure and compute environments
Experience working with C++, Java, Python, Node, or Go
Scripting with Bash, Python or similar
Experience with development tools such as Perforce, Git, Crucible, Swarm, Jenkins, JIRA
Agile Scrum development experience
- Coursework or experience in designing, writing, and testing software in at least one of the following domains: embedded systems, networking, communications, web services/full stack, data & analytics
- Cloud infrastructure experience (e.g. AWS, GCP, Azure)
- Prior experience with modern software engineering tools and processes such as GitHub, Jira, K8s, Agile/Scrum, CI/CD, DevOps
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
- Experience with large-scale wireless communication systems (SATCOM, LTE, etc.)
- Technical writing/documentation experience (Wiki, Word, Visio)
