Position Summary: 

The Cement Terminals Operations and Safety Director is pivotal in overseeing the operations at our cement terminals, focusing on ensuring safety, efficiency, and customer satisfaction in all aspects of the terminal's operations. This role involves direct management of product inventory, inbound and outbound logistics, and workforce, including terminal operators and contracted labor.

The Cement Terminals Operations and Safety Director for Cement Terminals oversees the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all terminal facilities within the company’s cement distribution network. This leader is responsible for developing and implementing operational strategies, ensuring compliance with all safety and environmental regulations, optimizing logistics performance, and driving continuous improvement across multiple sites.

This role requires a strong combination of technical knowledge, leadership, and business acumen to ensure terminals operate at peak performance while maintaining a world-class safety culture.

  

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Leadership

  • Direct daily operations across multiple cement terminals, ensuring consistent performance in loading/unloading, storage,      and distribution.
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) and performance metrics for terminal efficiency, reliability, and quality.
  • Oversee preventive maintenance programs to ensure equipment uptime and longevity.
  • Lead terminal capacity planning, asset utilization, and capital improvement projects in alignment with corporate strategy.
  • Manage relationships with logistics partners, vendors, and customers to ensure smooth product flow and service excellence.

Safety & Compliance

  • Serve as the company’s primary authority for terminal safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Design, implement, and maintain safety programs consistent with OSHA, MSHA, DOT, and environmental regulations.
  • Lead incident investigations and root cause analyses, ensuring corrective actions are completed and shared across all sites.
  • Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and emergency response drills.
  • Foster a proactive safety culture that prioritizes accountability, communication, and continuous learning.

Financial & Strategic Management

  • Develop and manage terminal operating budgets, capital expenditures, and cost control initiatives.
  • Analyze operational KPIs to identify improvement opportunities in cost, throughput, and asset utilization.
  • Collaborate with commercial and supply chain teams to align terminal operations with sales forecasts and market demand.
  • Support due diligence and integration for potential new terminal acquisitions or expansions.

Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop terminal managers and staff across multiple locations.
  • Establish clear performance objectives,  accountability systems, and professional development pathways.
  • Promote teamwork, operational discipline, and a culture of continuous improvement across all levels of the organization.

Reporting and Strategic Initiatives:

  • Generate comprehensive operational reports and analyze data to drive operational improvements.
  • Participate in strategic planning and execution of capital improvements to enhance facility efficiency and capability.

Interdepartmental Collaboration:

  • Work closely with Commercial, Accounting, and other departments to streamline operations and maintain accurate records.
  • Engage in regular dialogue with management to ensure alignment with organizational goals.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Operations Management, Logistics, or related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in bulk materials handling, cement, or industrial terminal operations.
  • Proven track record in safety management, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and change management skills.
  • Ability to analyze complex operational data and translate it into actionable improvements.
  • Experience managing multi-site operations with distributed teams.

Desired   Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and terminal operating systems.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to foster a positive work environment.

Working   Conditions:

  • Outdoor work in varied weather conditions; protective gear required.
  • Requires standing, walking, and occasionally sedentary tasks.

Travel   Requirements:

  • Intense travel to all cement terminals on a regular basis.
