About the Department
The City of Pasadena's Department of Public Works is looking for an Equipment Mechanic I to perform repairs and maintain light duty motorized equipment, small automotive vehicles and some non-power-driven equipment.
The current vacancy is in our Fleet Maintenance Division of our Public Works Department. This division is responsible for maintaining, repairing and disposing of the City's fuel-powered fleet which consists of approximately 900 vehicles and other pieces of equipment such as: lawn mowers and power tools.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will have recent experience working on light duty motorized equipment and small automotive vehicles. This person must be dependable, take initiative, possess effective problem-solving skills, maintain safety standards, detail-oriented, and have a strong work ethic.

- Inspecting and diagnosing operating problems in motorized equipment and automotive vehicles;
- Determining needed repairs;
- Overhauling and repairing defective components and parts on small passenger vehicles, motorized construction equipment, and light duty industrial equipment, appropriate to the classification;
- Interpreting electrical circuits and machine drawings;
- Sharpening and adjusting turf mowing equipment;
- Disassembling motors and mechanical operating equipment and attachments; installing and fitting new or reconditioned parts;
- Adjusting brakes, clutches, ignition, and carburetion;
- Tuning engines; operating automotive test equipment and power tools used in repair and service work; and
- Preparing records of work done and parts used.
Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum Qualifications:
- Three years of professional journey-level trade or shop experience making mechanical repairs to small passenger vehicles or motorized construction equipment, or proof of successful completion of a state-approved 4-year apprentice mechanic program.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working with public safety vehicles and emergency lighting.
- ASE Certification are deemed most desirable.
- Must Possess the diagnostic skills required to effectively diagnose computer-controlled engines and transmissions.

Other Qualifications
A valid Class C California Driver's License is required at time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment. Must possess necessary hand and power tools required to perform duties of the job.
