Job Title: Distribution Planning Engineer III/Senior Engineer
Work Location(s): Augusta, GA, or Metro Atlanta, GA.
Note: This position will be required to report a Georgia Power Company office four days per week (M-Thur). It is not a requirement to live in Augusta area to successfully do this job.
Job Description:
We are seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking engineer to join our team as a Distribution Planning Engineer supporting the Athens, GA or Valdosta, GA distribution areas.
In this role, you will conduct and evaluate planning studies that are essential to meeting our customers' needs while driving innovation and efficiency in our grid.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop medium (2-5 year) and long (5+ year) range distribution plans
Conduct comprehensive feeder analysis studies using CYME to ensure optimal capacity and voltage levels.
Collaborate with departments such as Distribution Engineering, Area Planning, Reliability and Customer Choice to present innovative solutions to all levels of management as appropriate.
Oversee capital projects, including feeder additions and reconductors, within a designated distribution area.
Evaluate large load projects to assess their impact on the distribution system.
Support special projects aimed at enhancing Grid Investment and DER integration.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline is required. Electrical Engineering or Electric Power Systems is preferred, but other relevant fields will be considered with appropriate experience.
Experience:
5+ years of engineering experience in planning, design, maintenance, or operation of distribution/transmission systems is required.
Skills and Abilities:
Proficiency in computer programming, with knowledge of Python, Power BI, Visual Basic, and Microsoft Office applications, is advantageous.
Working knowledge of power flow analysis software and distribution or transmission planning analysis (e.g., CYME, Synergi, PSSE) is essential.
Familiarity with emerging technologies such as photovoltaic solar, electric vehicles, and battery storage is a plus.
Demonstrated interpersonal, analytical, communication, teamwork, negotiation, and presentation skills.
Strong technical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
Proven track record of building relationships with cross-functional teams and maintaining a customer-centric focus.
Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for presenting findings and preparing detailed reports.
