Position Summary
When working with Poteau Cold Springs Fire, the Intern will be assisting with all the day-to-day activities of Fire. That includes fire suppression activities, prescribed burning for fuels reduction, preparations for prescribed burning, and maintaining fire equipment and facilities. We plan to burn over 70,000 acres of Ouachita National Forest and we typically suppress 20 wildfires a year. Recreation areas include three day use areas, two rifle ranges, and several district trail systems.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Always be fire ready for suppression efforts. Keep fire equipment ready for fire suppression. Prepare designated areas for prescribed fire implementation. Learn how to safely operate in wildfire environments. Maintain recreation areas.
Marginal Duties
Maintenance of equipment. Improve physical fitness. Cleaning fire equipment and facilities. Chainsaw usage.

Pass the Arduous pack test for Red Card
This SCA Position is authorized under the Public Land Corps Authority. All participants must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans age 35 or younger. Participants must also be a citizen or national of the United States or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States. Hours served can be applied toward the Public Land Corps (PLC) hiring authority.
