 A Snapshot of What You'll Do:

The Assembly Operations Manager leads day‑to‑day execution on the production floor to ensure Anton Paar QuantaTec’s analytical lab instrumentation products are manufactured to specification, meet highest quality standards and are delivered on time. The manager is responsible for:

  • Executing the production schedule provided by the Planning Department, actively resolving constraints and driving real-time actions to protect throughput, quality and delivery.
  • Coordinating the manufacturing of products including establishing goals, assigning workloads, and evaluating results.
  • Establishing and implementing key performance metrics to ensure manufacturing goals are met
  • Creating and monitoring the production schedule to meet customer delivery requirements in a cost-effective manner.
  • Leading by setting priorities, expectations and fully advancing the team through hiring, training and mentoring.
  • Applying lean principles and implementing continuous improvement projects.

The Impact You’ll Make: 

The Assembly Operations Manager is a self-starter who leads a team, balances multiple projects on defined timelines and engages with inter-company teams to ensure production is performed at the highest level of efficiency. Job duties include:

  • Floor execution. Run assembly lines to the released schedule; remove constraints; ensure on-time start/finish and accurate SAP confirmations.
  • Scheduling & capacity. Monitor lead times; adjust to demand, inventory, and staffing; balance labor and redeploy to clear bottlenecks.
  • Quality & compliance. Champion “quality at the source” and a stop-to-fix culture; enforce work instructions, test procedures, and ESD/cleanliness standards; partner with Quality on 8D/5-Why.
  • Continuous improvement (Lean). Drive kaizen on safety, quality, delivery, and cost; implement standard work, 5S, visual management, SMED; define production strategies to improve quality, productivity, and cost.
  • Metrics & reporting. Define/track KPIs (e.g., FPY, rework, scrap, cycle time); act immediately when metrics drift; maintain visual management.
  • Cross-functional coordination. Work with Planning (schedule/constraints), Purchasing (shortages), Quality & Production Engineering & R&D (technical issues); liaise across departments to keep builds on schedule and aligned to targets.
  • New product introduction. Partner with R&D and Product Engineering to plan ramp-up (BOM structure, testing schedule, work-instruction format); ready the floor for new instruments.
  • Cost & resource planning. Forecast costs by units, lot sizes, and delivery methods; optimize productivity and capacity utilization.
  • Team leadership. Lead, coach, and develop assemblers/technicians/leads; maintain a skills matrix and cross-training plans; set clear expectations and recognition practices.
  • Governance. Follow company policies, OSHA safety regulations, and perform other duties as assigned.

 Education and Experience:

The Assembly Operations Manager typically requires a combination of managerial experience, education, training, certifications and skills. This role requires the following:

  • An Associate’s Degree in a mechanical, technology or engineering field or equivalent hands-on experience
  • 4+ years of experience in a manufacturing/assembly 
  • 2+ years of experience leading a team 
  • Demonstrated lean implementation (5S, standard work, visual controls, basic kaizen/SMED); Six Sigma Green Belt a plus
  • Ability to interact with all levels of an organization in a professional and respectful manner
  • SAP or comparable ERP experience; SAP PP familiarity preferred. 
  • Experience with electro‑mechanical assembly and test equipment strongly preferred.

Anton Paar QuantaTec manufactures instruments for characterization of powders and porous materials using techniques like physisorption, chemisorption, gas pycnometry, mercury intrusion porosimetry, capillary flow porometry amongst others.

 Supervision Exercised 

This role is a working manager who is a member of multiple inter-company teams and oversees exempt and non-exempt staff.

 

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, observe, communicate and handle items such as computers, machinery and other equipment. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

 

Position requires the ability to obtain a Passport for international travel.
