OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE:  

The Cultural Broker & Language Facilitator will support efforts to establish and strengthen relationships between families and the Brunswick School community; assist in implementing systems and programming designed to provide relevant and timely information and resources to families; assist in building an internal culture that values family engagement; and work to connect both students and families to support services that will help address barriers to successful engagement in school. 

 

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Translate district documents and provide interpretation services to families needing language access services
  • Assess the needs of families and collaborate with school-based leaders, teachers, social workers, guidance counselors, and other school staff to implement programming to meet those needs, within the capabilities of the school 
  • Assist with parent orientation, training, and other informational sessions for families 
  • Assist with family intake services for new students registering for school
  • Attend student support teams, RTI meetings, IEP meetings as needed
  • Conduct home visits, when appropriate, to facilitate contact with parents and clarify any additional needs 
  • Commit to growing professionally through consistent and constant feedback and reflection
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule to accommodate family and community outreach and/or events on evenings and weekends, as needed

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

  • A proven track record of working collaboratively and productively with all stakeholders – students, teachers, school staff, parents and community-based groups, particularly in an urban environment
  • Strong communication verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a track record of working collaboratively with staff at all levels, parents and community
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and develop capacity in adults
  • A commitment to high performance standards and unwavering belief that all students can excel

QUALIFICATIONS & LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bilingual and biliterate in English and Portuguese, as evidenced by a certified language proficiency assessment
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • at least 2 years of relevant experience preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Light physical effort required; significant stamina required to handle long days.
  • Attendance at evening meetings required.
  • Ability to manage stressful situations.
  • District-wide travel required.
