The Senior Director, Walmart Customer Development, works with the Walmart merchandising organization and internal company teams to deliver top-line revenue and volume along with operating income goals. The role represents multiple business units within the company in all customer interactions and is accountable for growth.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities |
- Ensure delivery of assigned sales, operational, and financial objectives for the company.
- Own and lead customer engagement for the direct sales relationship for day-to-day business while developing consultative customer relationships across Walmart Merchandising, Replenishment, Global Sourcing, Product Development, Marketing, and Omni teams.
- Lead customer-facing team located in NW Arkansas.
- Lead and negotiate innovative new item development plans with Walmart.
- Act as Walmart expert to include identifying and developing growth opportunities and leading ideation and solutions when customer problems or issues surface.
- Manage Walmart modulars providing competitive market, pricing, and SKU opportunities.
- Define and communicate customer business processes and identify cost savings where possible.
- Oversee business presentations and meeting arrangements.
- Collaborate with and develop internal relationships across Regulatory, Quality, Product Management, and Finance.
- Own and oversee all related Merchandising, Assortment, Pricing, and Shelving (M.A.P.S) activities.
- Lead planning and objective-setting for all Walmart team members.
- Create business case for new item development including R&D needs, pricing, and volumes.
- Provide annual line review planning templates by category.
- Lead Omni channel (Walmart.com) content development and marketing.
- Advocate on behalf of customers including sharing their vision to all internal stakeholders.
- Ensure internal operating rhythm is collaborative, effective, and efficient.
- Provide monthly and regular customer forecast signals to planning team.
- Lead analysis and recommendations planning for the Joint Business Planning (JBP) process.
- Own the finalization and execution of all line review presentations.
- Report and execute all supply chain replenishment activities.
- Collaborate with Retail team to identify trends and growth opportunities.
- Travel to company and stakeholder locations as needed (20%).
People Leader Responsibilities |
The position carries out People Leader Responsibilities in accordance with the Company’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include:
- Direct or indirect supervision to include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding, and administering corrective actions; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Ensure the safety and quality standards expected of all SCN BestCo staff are met.
- Plan organizational structure, position content, and staffing levels.
Required Qualifications |
Education & Experience:
- 12 years of branded/private label retail consumer packaged goods (CPG) sales/business development experience.
- 5 years’ direct sales experience to Walmart & Sam’s Club.
- 8 years’ progressive management and leadership experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSAs):
- Understanding of key principles of business management including forecasting, budgeting, market projections including how they influence and relate to project and program execution.
- Advanced analytical, retail math, written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong leadership, presentation, reporting, communication, collaboration, negotiation, planning, problem-solving, organization, and sales skills.
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams and thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge and experience with Retail Link.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Ability to develop and maintain strong, productive relationships with internal and external customers.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities with efficiency and accuracy.
- Ability to creatively approach challenges and opportunities in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with internal staff and management. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, or procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information to senior-level leaders and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Must be able to demonstrate practical problem solving and trouble shooting skills. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Preferred Qualifications |
- Master’s degree in business administration or related field.
- Industry experience in vitamins, minerals & supplements (VMS) or over the counter (OTC) products.
- Private brand development experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft BI, SharePoint, SAP, AMAPS, and/or Workfront.
