Anglo American Steelmaking Coal
Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in steelmaking coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in North West Queensland and Western Australia.
An opportunity exists at Aquila Mine for an experienced Mining Coordinator: Longwall to join the team on a permanent basis. As the Longwall Coordinator you will support the Mining Superintendent: Longwall in all aspects of longwall section activities and resources to mine coal safely, optimally and in accordance with the annual mine plan at Aquila Mine. You will work with our industry-leading remotely operated autonomous longwall technology.
The mine features two longwall systems (walk on, walk off) ensuring production continuity. Both longwalls are fully remote capable from the site-based Remote Operations Centre (ROC) on the surface of the mine.
Your key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Coordinate a core team of operational personnel to safely deliver the annual longwall targets and to improve performance.
- Support the Mining Superintendent: Longwall in planning, coordinating all aspects associated with the implementation of longwall move events.
- Build, lead and develop the team to deliver departmental plans and continuous improvement objectives.
- Conduct Visual Felt Leaderships (VFLs) and regular visual inspections and audits of workplace conditions.
- Maintain statutory compliance to the mine Safety Health Management System and all legislative requirements.
- Demonstrate a commitment to the zero-harm philosophy with an emphasis on delivering safety improvements and efficiencies.
- Ensure compliance with all people, safety, technical, operating and business systems, behaviours and culture in your area.
- Collaborate and build strong relationships across a range of both internal and external stakeholders.
- Deliver on other key performance metrics that will drive performance and results.
- Experience or exposure to longwall automation systems, remote operating centre (ROC) and bi-directional cutting
- Demonstrated experienced working within a longwall team
- Previous supervisory experience is not required; however, we're looking for individuals who are motivated and ready to take the next step into a leadership role
- Supervisor qualifications (S1, 2, 3 & G2) is desirable
- Knowledge of relevant mining legislation and its application
- Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills to influence and achieve buy-in from key stakeholders
- An understanding of key safety risks and ways to mitigate them
- Full-time permanent position based at Aquila Mine, Middlemount
