The role  

We are looking for an Engineering Team Lead to own a number of individual workstreams, and provide support & mentorship to the people in their team. They will produce high-quality software that solves real-world problems in secure, innovative and supportable ways. The environment will be dynamic and often exploratory, so a desire to drive results in periods of uncertainty will be required. The role is focused around leading teams of early career individuals, so mentorship, support and guidance will be key attributes in ensuring the success of both the role and the team, with a view to build them into the leaders of tomorrow.

Horizon Engineering is a place for innovation, impact and opportunity. You’ll be creating & utilising tooling across the generative AI space, working with teams of talented graduates to ideate, co-create and operate solutions across a broad range of domain areas, both internal and external.  We are creating the foundations of generative AI at Dojo to ensure safe & scalable adoption across the business.

 

What you will do

  • Lead the architecture and design of efficient and maintainable systems, supporting the appropriate scale for the solution.
  • Own the software development process, ensuring software is delivered with quality, predictability, and consistency.
  • Mentorship, team building, performance management, and conflict resolution of the individuals in your team.
  • Grow the people you support into future leaders by providing opportunities for them to excel, with your support.
  • Lead the delivery of business objectives in collaboration with peers, stakeholders, product, and technical management.
  • Build, run and measure PoC solutions, sharing the outputs with the wider business and using the data to better inform future designs.

What you will bring

  • Demonstrated leadership experience, with ideally 2+ years managing people and fostering growth
  • Proficiency in modern agile development practices, including code reviews, continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD).
  • Knowledge of microservices architecture, experience with Kubernetes, event-driven systems and cloud infrastructure (we use GCP in this space).
  • Open-ness with regard to language, ideally some experience of Python, .NET, Golang and/or Java.
  • Strong mentorship skills to foster growth, bridge skill gaps, and enhance collaboration, ensuring the team success and individual development across all levels.
  • An attitude of leading by example, consistently demonstrating and promoting the values we expect from every member of the engineering team.
