Job Statement

Performs a wide variety of unskilled and semi-skilled manual work in landscaping and grounds maintenance depending on department or section. Keeps vehicles stocked and in an orderly, clean condition.

Essential Duties

  1. Loads, unloads and carries tools, equipment and materials.
  2. Assists in the upkeep and repair of property owned or disturbed by Huntsville Utilities and its crews
  3. Assists construction type activities. E.g. forms and pours concrete, builds or repairs fences, rakes and prepares soil for laying sod, sowing grass, and replacing damaged trees/shrubs
  4. Places cones in roadway to protect personnel and vehicles. Flags traffic as instructed.
  5. Stocks truck with water, tools, supplies, and equipment.
  6. Cleans up tools and job site upon completion of work
  7. Performs all task is a safe manner.
  8. Performs various other duties as assigned based on learned skills and abilities.

 

Job Requirements

Education:  High School Graduate or equivalent required.

Experience:  Landscaping, grounds maintenance, concrete work desirable.  Work experience in outside environment.

Equipment:  Trucks, two-way radio, common hand tools, mowers, landscaping tools

Physical Demands:  Mostly outside physical work in all weather conditions, including the ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs., prolonged standing; manual dexterity.

Other:  Subject to “on-call” and emergency duty.  Must have valid drivers license.  Will be required to obtain CDLwithin 1 year of hire date.

This position is considered a safety sensitive position. All employees in safety sensitive positions are subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
