About the role

We are seeking an experienced Platform Engineer to engage with our innovative shared capabilities Azure Kubernetes platform team. The ideal candidate will possess experience in building and maintaining foundational infrastructure and tooling, supporting both software development and deployment. This role offers the opportunity to join a team that helps to underpin the success of other Engineering teams at Haleon.

Key responsibilities

  • Maintain the Azure Kubernetes-based platform, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security for all tenants and hosted applications.

  • Contribute to the lifecycle management of platform resources, including Kubernetes clusters, networking, storage, and supported Azure services.

  • Develop and maintain Terraform modules, GitHub pipelines and ArgoCD GitOps processes for infrastructure provisioning and application deployment.

  • Automate operational processes to improve platform efficiency and reduce manual intervention.

  • Guide and onboard application teams to the platform, providing expert advice on platform capabilities, supported application patterns, and integration approaches.

  • Provide Level 2 engineering support for platform issues, incident response, and troubleshooting complex problems related to Azure resources, Kubernetes, or deployment tooling.

  • Debugging complex software and hardware interactions.

  • Collaborate with internal and external support teams as needed.

  • Implement and enforce platform security controls, including RBAC, secret management, image scanning, and compliance with corporate standards.

  • Maintain platform documentation and contribute to process improvement for change management and access controls.

  • Participate in Agile ceremonies.

Qualifications and skills

Essential

  • Solid understanding of containerisation, including how to create multi-stage Docker files, and able to demonstrate how to reduce build times.

  • Proven track record in enterprise Azure administration or development roles with deep knowledge, across all aspects of the Azure platform, specialising in container orchestration and management with Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).

  • Experience and understanding of modern DevSecOps platform technologies, specifically GitHub version control & CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions, infrastructure-as-code with Terraform, and container deployment to Kubernetes using GitOps via ArgoCD.

  • Demonstratable skills of how to quickly identify and address performance bottlenecks within Kubernetes clusters and containerized applications.

  • Working knowledge of database systems, including MongoDB and PostgreSQL.

  • Demonstratable experience innovating within organizations, identifying and incorporating new technologies, methodologies, and industry best practices into the engineering process.

  • Experience thriving in a Scrum based Agile development. You will be required to contribute during Daily Standups & Sprint Retrospectives to help us improve.

  • Excellent communication skills when interacting with Software Engineers who may or may not be fully familiar with Kubernetes.

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Preferred

  • Azure Architect or Developer certifications.

  • Software development experience in applicable languages/frameworks (Node.js, Python, Go).
