Civil Or Environmental Engineer – Alexandria, MN
Remote Position
Are you a skilled Engineer with a passion for the outdoors? Do you want to work for a leader in wetland conservation and make a difference in the world? Ducks Unlimited is currently seeking a talented Civil or Environmental Professional Engineer (PE) or Engineer in Training (EIT) to join our team in the Living Lakes Field Office, located in Garfield, MN, with the possibility of working remotely in the Southwest portion of MN. Primary responsibilities will be in Minnesota.
As an engineer at Ducks Unlimited, you will work on a variety of wetland and habitat restoration projects, collaborating with a team of biologists, engineers, and construction managers to bring projects to life. You will be responsible for creating accurate and detailed designs and drawings for wetland restoration and enhancement projects, coordinating throughout the planning, design and construction of these projects.
Qualifications
Candidates must have at minimum, a B.S in Civil Engineering or an equivalent degree from an EAC/ABET accredited engineering program, and a preferred minimum of 5 years of experience in civil engineering design. Preferred candidate must be a registered EIT or PE. Applicant will need to obtain registration in assigned states. Desirable qualifications include experience with Civil3D, hydrology, hydraulics, civil design including water level control structures and pump stations, creative borrow/grading, erosion control, construction inspection and project management. Demonstrated oral, written and interpersonal communication skills are essential. Candidates must be self-motivated, goal oriented and able to work with and solve problems in close team-based relationships.
Responsibilities
Engineers perform a full range of project planning, design, contracting, and construction management functions on wetland, riparian, and associated habitat restoration projects. Project delivery responsibilities include field survey, engineering design, drafting with AutoCAD Civil 3D, project bidding, field inspection, and construction management. A close working relationship with local, state and federal personnel, private landowners, and other conservation partners will be an important aspect of the job. The position will include travel throughout assigned state(s).
Specific duties include:
- Interpret, select, adapt, and apply engineering, surveying, and construction management principles and practices across a range of engineering services within a diverse conservation program.
- Prepare project plans, designs, technical specifications, report writing, and cost estimates. Attend project meetings.
- Conduct field inspection and perform construction management oversight as needed.
- Ensure that consultants and contractors adhere to project plans, specifications, and schedules.
- Act as contracting officer, ensure contract compliance and manage project budgets.
- Perform field work as required which could include strenuous outdoor activity in difficult environmental conditions. Must be able to or willing to learn to operate ATV and outboard boat when necessary.
- Survey project sites using Trimble GPS survey equipment.
