Position Title: Family Therapist

Position Type: Full-Time (37.5+ hours/week), Non-Exempt

Work Setting: Hybrid (in office and at homes/community locations)

Reports To: Director of Family Therapy Services

Pay Range: $31-$34/hour

Position Overview:

Please note: this position is contingent upon the successful award of a contract and availability of funding. Employment cannot be guaranteed until both the contract and necessary funding are secured.

JFS is looking for a compassionate, mission-driven individual to join the Family Therapy Services team as a Family Therapist. The Family Therapist plays an integral role on the team and engages families referred by juvenile justice and child welfare systems, assessing the strengths and needs among youth (ages 6 to 18 years old) and their families, and providing Brief Strategic Family Therapy (BSFT). BSFT is a trauma sensitive, strength based, culturally competent and evidenced based practice that is effective in improving family functioning. The Family Therapist will help families develop the skills and resources needed to strengthen the family unit and prevent out of home placement.

This position reports directly to the Director of Family Therapy Services and works closely with the other Family Therapists, Intake Specialist, and Program Assistant. This is a BBS registered intern role that will help our team provide in-home and on-site support through crisis intervention, counseling, referrals and support to youth and their families.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide family therapy services with fidelity to the Brief Strategic Family Therapy (BSFT) model
  • In collaboration with Intake Specialist, conduct ongoing assessments and pre/post surveys
  • Develop and implement strength-based family treatment plans
  • Fulfill all requirements to become certified in BSFT in the time allotted, and maintain good standing in fidelity adherence program
  • Provide crisis intervention and stabilization as needed
  • Identify and strengthen positive adaptive interactions, utilize BSFT strategies and techniques; and identify dysfunctional relational patterns and create relevant interventions
  • Attend training and educational opportunities in the unique aspects of the culture, common family dynamics, or frequently seen issues of clients in program
  • Complete documentation congruent with the Brief Strategic Family Therapy model, as well as ensure compliance with agency and contractual documentation expectations
  • Participate in consultation sessions and in supervision and other agency related meetings
  • All other duties as assigned

Skills/Experience/Abilities That Are a Must-Have:

  • Masters level education in the areas of Psychology, Social Work, or related field required
  • Current registration with the Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) of California required or able to meet this requirement within six (6) months
  • Must have a valid CA driver's license, insurance, a reliable personal vehicle, and a willingness to travel off-site
  • Ability to apply clinical judgment, ethics and accountability to formulate and implement treatment plans and other clinical documentation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and criminal history background check

Skills/Abilities We’d Like You to Have:

  • Bilingual preferred
  • Two years’ experience providing services to youth and families or equivalent preferred
  • Prior experience working with youth in custody or in probation facilities preferred

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk and listen. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, use hands and arms to type on a keyboard, handle papers, and reach for the phone. Employees must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
