Position Summary:
Under general supervision, the Accountant I performs limited accounting functions involving the practical application of established accounting standards, theories, principles, and practices.

State specific pay scales for this role are as follows:
$50,056 to $87,533 (CA, NJ, NY, WA, HI, AK, MD, CT, RI, MA)
$45,505 to $79,576 (NV, OR, AZ, CO, WY, TX, ND, MN, MO, IL, WI, FL, GA, MI, OH, VA, PA, DE, VT, NH, ME)
$40,955 to $71,618 (UT, ID, MT, NM, SD, NE, KS, OK, IA, AR, LA, MS, AL, TN, KY, IN, SC, NC, WV)
The expected base salary for this position will vary depending on a number of factors, including relevant experience, skills and location.
Responsibilities:Essential Job Functions:- Assists with month-end general ledger entries and financial statement preparation in compliance with the Company's Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) program and Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP).
- Coordinates the communication and reconciliation of accounts with banking institutions and customers.
- Assists in the preparation and timely filing of quarterly and annual statutory statements, gross premium tax returns and other statutory reports.
- Reconciles various general ledger accounts as assigned.
- Assists in reconciling investment transactions to ensure accurate recording of investment activity.
- Reconciles bank statements for cash accounts to general ledger cash balances; updates and balances control schedules through trial balance.
- May prepare monthly accruals; review accounts payable expense coding and settle internal payable account. May complete specialized reports as required, such as, premium tax returns, management fees, fixed assets, etc. May assist outside audit professionals by researching and compiling financial information for annual audit reports.
- Maintain acceptable attendance at work on a full-time schedule of at least 8 hours per day and 40 hours per week

Qualifications: Education: Experience: Knowledge and Skills: • Knowledge of statutory accounting principles (SAP) and generally-accepted accounting principles (GAAP) encompassing fundamental theories, principles, and terminology of accountancy. • Requires critical attention to detail and good organizational skills needed to manage assigned general ledgers and accounts. • Analytical and technical skill to examine and analyze the records of financial transactions for accuracy, bank reconciliation, investment accounting, effect of transactions upon account relationships, etc. • Proficient knowledge of MS applications (Excel, Word, and Outlook). • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Able to communicate professionally at all levels within and outside of the organization. • Able to interact cordially with other team members to accomplish common tasks.
