POSITION: Administrative Assistant (Part-time)

DEPARTMENT: School of Communication

REPORTS TO: Chair, School of Communication; and Dean

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Coordinate and perform administrative functions in support of the School of Communication

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience in an academic setting involving student and faculty contact and experience with database management; strong experience with Microsoft Office products required; excellent communication and ability to interact effectively with varied constituencies, i.e. students, staff, faculty, and employers in a fast-paced environment. Must be able to multitask and work simultaneously on a number of projects.

Duties:

Assist with all academic and outreach functions of the department and its degree programs, including:

  1. Maintain student records and other materials, throughout the year and particularly during advisement periods.
  2. Handle book orders and provide other faculty support.
  3. Help with event organization and room reservations for School's activities.
  4. Assist in budgetary oversight and handle purchase requests and orders, check requests, and more.
  5. Assist with the supervision and training of work-study students assigned to the School.
  6. Greet students and visitors, answer phones, refer calls, and schedule appointments for School faculty and staff as needed.
  7. Type letters, general correspondence, reports, etc.; and assist in mailing preparation.
  8. Order and maintain all office supplies and equipment, make sure that all supply and equipment needs are met.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned
