GENERAL SUMMARY

The Service Center Shop Floor Lead position -assists with the day-to-day operations of an assigned SPX FLOW service center. This role is intended to lead the local service technicians by scheduling work and monitoring progress. Working directly with the Service Center Supervisor, the Service Center Shop Floor Lead supports local service center operations, with responsibility for in-house operations, quality, inventory management, order management, and safety.

 

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This is a “working lead” position. Physical work on the shop floor is required approximately 40% of the time to fulfill workload demands and satisfy customer commitments.
  • Assist the supervisor with order, production, and inventory transactions in both SAP and ESales.  This includes order entry, structuring, planning, warehousing and shipping.
  • Assign work to shop floor personnel to maximize utilization and productivity.
  • Expedite operations that delay schedules and alter scheduling to meet unforeseen conditions.
  • Assist in handling incoming questions and inquiries from customers on commercial and technical issues.
  • Lead and own safe work practices, shop cleanliness, quality compliance, and contractual compliance.
  • Routinely perform safety and productivity inspections in the workshop ensuring tasks are in compliance with safety and quality procedures.  
  • Assist in the reconciliation and reporting of physical inventory and production data.
  • Draw from extensive product knowledge and experience to plan and accomplish goals with minimal oversight. 
  • Troubleshoot, test and repair equipment and components according to established quality procedures in the service center or at customer sites.
  • Perform DCI (disassembly, clean and inspection) of customers equipment.
  • Read assembly specifications, such as charts, blueprints, schematic diagrams, and engineering specifications to determine requirements for correct disassembly/assembly.
  • Document disassembly of equipment via forms with pictures to generate a teardown report.
  • Ensure repaired products meet technical specifications and perform diagnostic tests to confirm proper functionality of repaired equipment.
  • Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and other shop machinery.
  • Assist with receiving, inspection, warehouse, and shipping functions within the service center.
  • Travel up to 25% of the time, sometimes this will require traveling on short notice, for extended periods to meet the customer’s needs.
  • Responsible for making travel arrangements for field service trips and allocating all associated expenses.
  • 24/7 availability for afterhours emergencies (customer breakdown, facility issues).
  • Perform all tasks in accordance with SPX FLOW Business Conduct guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

SKILLS

  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload to maximize efficiency.
  • Must have excellent people and communication skills – verbal and written.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, SAP, Excel, Word, and PDF editors such as Adobe or Nuance.
  • Able to lead a workshop and associated work crews to accomplish goals and objectives established by management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate clearly and work across the organization. 
  • Ability to work and lead as part of a team.
  • Ability to read and interpret maintenance and repair manuals and manufacturing drawings.
  • Strong comprehension of welding and machining practices and standards.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • A high school diploma and 5 years of hands-on experience as a service technician working on industrial equipment (highly preferred).  OR, a 2-year Technical Degree and 3 years of hands-on experience as a service technician working on industrial equipment.
  • Experienced in industrial equipment repair with a strong understanding of machining, welding, and assembly processes and related equipment required. Experience with industrial gearboxes or rotating equipment preferred.
