Job Title: Accounting Assistant

Company: Shamin Hotels/Hilton Richmond Hotel & Spa/Short Pump

Department: Operations

Reports To: Manager of Accounting and HR

Job Summary:

The Hotel Accounting Assistant supports the daily financial operations of the hotel by performing clerical and administrative accounting tasks. This role ensures accuracy in financial transactions, assists with bookkeeping duties, and maintains organized records to support the hotel's accounting department.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Transactions & Bookkeeping:

Assist with accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) processing, including invoice verification, payment processing, and collections.

Reconcile daily revenue reports and verify transactions against hotel records.

Prepare bank deposits and cash reconciliations while ensuring proper handling of hotel funds.

Support payroll processing by reviewing timekeeping records and ensuring accuracy.

General Accounting & Compliance:

Assist with general ledger entries, journal postings, and month-end closing procedures.

Ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures, including tax regulations and internal controls.

Maintain accurate financial documentation and assist with audits when necessary.

Administrative & Support Duties:

Respond to vendor inquiries and maintain positive supplier relationships.

Organize and maintain financial records, ensuring proper documentation of invoices, receipts, and expense reports.

Support other accounting team members with ad hoc projects and reporting as needed.

Qualifications


Education & Experience:

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business preferred.

Minimum 1-2 years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or a related role (hospitality industry experience is a plus).

Skills & Competencies:

Strong understanding of basic accounting principles and financial transactions.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, M3, Sage).

Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on accuracy.

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
