Overview
The Pharia Finetuning Team develops the infrastructure and tooling that power custom post-training of Aleph Alpha’s small/vision/large language models. We build highly scalable on-premise and SaaS solutions that enable enterprises and researchers to adapt models to their specific domains, while maintaining security, privacy, and compliance. We work closely with ML engineers, infrastructure, and product teams to deliver production-ready AI systems used by enterprises and public institutions across Europe.
We’re looking for a Senior Backend Software Engineer with a passion for Python and scalable distributed systems. You will design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs that enable high-performance model finetuning on large-scale, sovereign AI infrastructure. You’ll work at the intersection of backend engineering, infrastructure, and applied AI — owning critical services that drive Aleph Alpha’s products and customer success.
Your Responsibilities
Design, build, and maintain scalable Python-based backend services for finetuning large language models and/or supporting the concerns around it.
Develop secure APIs for on-premise and SaaS deployments.
Collaborate closely with ML engineers, infrastructure, and product teams to bring our solutions into production.
Build internal/external tools that streamline model evaluation and finetuning workflows.
Ensure high availability, security, and performance of backend services across different environments.
Contribute to the technical vision and architecture of our finetuning platform.
Your Profile
Have strong Python expertise and experience with frameworks like FastAPI.
Have experience designing scalable APIs, backend services, and distributed systems.
Are comfortable with on-premise deployments, multi-tenant SaaS architectures, and secure data handling.
Understand data privacy, compliance, and European AI sovereignty challenges.
Value clean code, automation, testing, and observability.
