What’s the role?

We’re looking for a Senior Associate / Associate Director to join the Financial Insights, Risk and Enablement team within Group Treasury’s Chief Investment Office (CIO). 

CIO manages the risks arising from Westpac’s daily banking activities and structural balance sheet positions including interest rate, foreign currency, basis risks, liquid assets, collateral obligations, and liquidity risk.

In this role, you’ll be the primary contact for traders when risk or valuation issues arise in CIO’s Front Office Risk and P&L platform (Dragon). You’ll diagnose system breaks, translate complex valuation mechanics into trader-friendly language, and support solution design for continuous improvements. 

You’ll also represent CIO in broader Group Treasury initiatives and identify opportunities to simplify processes and reduce operational risk. This role requires strong quantitative and analytical skills to support decision-making and drive continuous improvement across systems and processes.

This is a full-time permanent role based in Sydney, with a hybrid working environment (3 days in office).

What do I need?

To be successful in this role, you’ll bring:

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with experience in financial market products and risk platforms
  • Knowledge of Financial Markets and Treasury, including Murex product system and front office risk and P&L
  • Excellent Excel skills: programming experience (e.g. Python, VBA, SQL) is a valuable bonus
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with stakeholders across multiple levels
  • A proactive, self-motivated attitude with a focus on problem-solving and continuous improvement
