Job Title: Retail & Rental Supervisor
Department: Retail & Rental

Status: Seasonal FT

Reporting To: Senior Retail & Rental Manager


Position Overview:


The Retail Shop Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the ski shop, ensuring exceptional customer service, maintaining visual merchandising standards, and efficiently managing inventory. This role requires a strong leader who can motivate a team and ensure the smooth running of the shop during peak seasons and off-peak times.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular inventory counts and reconcile discrepancies.
  • Monitor stock levels and communicate overstock and low/out of stock issues to the Senior Manager.
  • Process incoming shipments, ensuring accurate receiving and proper storage of merchandise.
  • Organize and maintain back-stock spaces, ensuring cleanliness and accessibility.
  • Manage inventory control procedures to minimize loss and optimize product availability.
  • Generate inventory reports and analyze data to identify trends and make informed purchasing recommendations to the Senior Manager. 
  • Ensure all merchandise displays are visually appealing, well-stocked, and adhere to company guidelines.
  • Regularly update displays to reflect new arrivals, promotions, and seasonal themes.
  • Maintain a clean and organized sales floor, including shelving, fixtures, and product placement.
  • Educate staff on merchandising principles and ensure consistent application across the shop.
  • Collaborate with the management team to develop and execute visual merchandising strategies.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the ski and snowboard rental department, including equipment fitting, maintenance, and return processes.
  • Ensure efficient flow of customers through the rental process, minimizing wait times.
  • Oversee the cleanliness and organization of the rental shop and equipment storage areas.
  • Monitor equipment inventory and condition, coordinating repairs and replacements as needed.
  • Train staff on proper rental procedures, equipment knowledge, and safety protocols.
  • Understand and enforce rental policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
  • Address customer inquiries and resolve issues related to rental equipment or services.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor retail associates, providing guidance and support.
  • Create and manage employee schedules to ensure adequate coverage during all operating hours.
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members.
  • Foster a positive and productive work environment, promoting teamwork and professional development.
  • Address employee concerns and conflicts in a timely and effective manner.
  • Ensure all staff adhere to company policies and procedures.
  • Lead by example, providing exceptional customer service and resolving customer complaints.
  • Train staff on product knowledge, sales techniques, and customer engagement strategies.
  • Monitor customer satisfaction and implement initiatives to enhance the customer experience.
  • Handle complex customer inquiries and escalate issues to management when necessary.
  • Ensure a welcoming and professional atmosphere within the shop at all times.

Requirements and/or Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in retail supervision, preferably in a ski or outdoor sports environment.
  • Strong understanding of inventory management principles and visual merchandising best practices.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate and develop a high-performing team.
  • Rental Operations Oversight
  • Manage the daily operations of the ski and snowboard rental department, including equipment fitting, maintenance, and return processes.
  • Ensure efficient flow of customers through the rental process, minimizing wait times.
  • Oversee the cleanliness and organization of the rental shop and equipment storage areas.

  • Proficiency in point-of-sale (POS) systems and inventory management software, specifically Shopify.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.

Physical Requirements- Must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to:

  • Must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to:
  • Full range of body movements including handling, lifting, reaching, bending, and climbing
  • Reach, push, pull, lift, and carry objects that may be heavy (40+ lbs) such as ski equipment, rental gear, and merchandise boxes
  • Prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, and twisting during customer service, inventory management, and equipment handling
  • Walk on even/uneven/slippery terrain, especially around the shop exterior and mountain base areas
  • Climb/descend stairs/ladders, including accessing storage areas and shop lofts
  • Manual dexterity to operate manual tools and power equipment on a constant basis, including ski tuning machines, binding tools, and other repair equipment
  • Safely handle hazardous materials such as ski waxes, tuning chemicals, and cleaning supplies


Working Environment:

  • The work environment includes both indoor and outdoor conditions at a high-altitude mountain location
  • Cold temperatures, often below freezing, are common, especially when assisting customers outdoors or moving equipment between locations
  • Noise level can be moderate to high due to customers, equipment, and music in the retail area
  • Exposure to snow, wind, and wet conditions is frequent
  • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment during peak ski season with high customer volume
  • Will be required to work weekends, holidays, and early/late shifts depending on mountain operations and customer traffic
