Job Title: Ski Tune Shop Supervisor
Department: Retail & Rental
Status: Seasonal FT
Reporting To: Senior Retail & Rental Manager
Position Overview:
The Ski Tune Shop Supervisor is responsible for leading the daily operations of the ski tune shop, ensuring exceptional service quality, stringent safety compliance, and an elevated customer experience. This role focuses on optimizing tune shop efficiency, maintaining high standards of equipment maintenance, and fostering a customer-centric environment. The Supervisor will manage staff, oversee equipment, and ensure all services meet industry best practices and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure all staff deliver outstanding customer service, actively listening to customer needs and providing expert recommendations for ski and snowboard tuning.
- Develop and implement strategies to enhance the overall customer journey within the tune shop, from initial interaction to equipment pickup.
- Handle customer inquiries, feedback, and concerns promptly and professionally, ensuring satisfactory resolutions.
- Promote additional services and products that enhance the customer's on-snow experience.
- Oversee and enforce strict adherence to all safety protocols and industry standards for ski and snowboard tuning and repair.
- Conduct regular inspections of tune shop equipment to ensure proper functionality and safety.
- Train and certify staff on proper use of machinery, binding adjustments, and safety procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of all tuning services performed, including binding tests and liability waivers.
- Coordinate with the resort Risk Management team regarding any incidents involving tune shop services.
- Ensure all technicians are current on relevant certifications and ongoing training.
- Manage daily tune shop operations, including scheduling, workflow management, and resource allocation.
- Train, develop, and coach tune shop technicians on best practices for equipment tuning, repair, and customer interaction.
- Monitor and manage inventory of tuning supplies, parts, and accessories, ensuring adequate stock levels.
- Implement efficient receiving and inventory management processes for all shop materials.
- Responsible for addressing equipment maintenance issues and alerting the department Director of potential issues.
- Conduct performance reviews and provide constructive feedback to staff.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work environment within the tune shop.
- Possess a strong understanding of ski and snowboard construction, tuning techniques (e.g., base grinding, edge sharpening, waxing), and binding adjustments.
- Stay current with industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in ski and snowboard maintenance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex equipment issues.
Requirements and/or Qualifications:
- Proven experience in ski and snowboard tuning and repair.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent customer service and communication abilities.
- In-depth knowledge of ski and snowboard safety standards and compliance.
- Ability to train and mentor staff effectively.
- Proficiency with tuning machinery and binding adjustment equipment.
- Relevant industry certifications (e.g., binding technician certifications) are preferred.
Physical Requirements- Must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to:

- Full range of body movements including handling, lifting, reaching, bending, and climbing
- Reach, push, pull, lift, and carry objects that may be heavy (40+ lbs) such as ski equipment, rental gear, and merchandise boxes
- Prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, and twisting during customer service, inventory management, and equipment handling
- Walk on even/uneven/slippery terrain, especially around the shop exterior and mountain base areas
- Climb/descend stairs/ladders, including accessing storage areas and shop lofts
- Manual dexterity to operate manual tools and power equipment on a constant basis, including ski tuning machines, binding tools, and other repair equipment
- Safely handle hazardous materials such as ski waxes, tuning chemicals, and cleaning supplies
Working Environment:
- The work environment includes both indoor and outdoor conditions at a high-altitude mountain location
- Cold temperatures, often below freezing, are common, especially when assisting customers outdoors or moving equipment between locations
- Noise level can be moderate to high due to customers, equipment, and music in the retail area
- Exposure to snow, wind, and wet conditions is frequent
- Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment during peak ski season with high customer volume
- Will be required to work weekends, holidays, and early/late shifts depending on mountain operations and customer traffic
