Technology Summer Internship 2026Summary of Role
A summer at Baillie Gifford could transform your IT career before it even starts. As an independent, global investment management business, Shared Services, where our technology teams sit, underpins everything we do. That’s why we constantly invest in our technology and the team of professionals who bring it to life. Join us as a summer intern and show us what you can do!
You’ll be immersed in our technology environment from the word go on our paid summer internship. Expect to be doing real work and taking responsibility as you get hands-on experience with our technologies. You can look forward to being part of a refreshingly open, cooperative, and supportive team culture. Plus, you will get the training and support to broaden your skills and discover your future potential, from LinkedIn Learning, to Pluralsight and peer-to-peer working, a summer with us will transform your skillset and CV!
For the Cloud, Infrastructure & Security internship programme, you'll be immersed in a team within the Infrastructure and Service Delivery area. These teams focus on technical support, systems resiliency, and longer-term IT strategy and project implementation. You will work collaboratively with your team, contributing to live projects or being immersed in the day-to-day work of the teams. Regardless, we will ensure you will learn something of substance that you can take forward in your final academic year and future career.
We focus on understanding how exciting technologies can be applied to solve today’s business challenges. This programme means you will work and gain professional exposure to technologies from Microsoft, Dell, Palo Alto, Google, AWS and ServiceNow. You might get hands-on with git and source control, containerisation, using Docker, and Cloud, for example, all experience will help make your CV stand out from the crowd!
For the Software Engineering & Innovation internship programme(s), you’ll join one of our teams, either focused on software engineering in a Microsoft tech stack, in our Application Development and Enablement or on research and development in our Innovation department.
Our software engineering teams create scalable applications and solutions that drive our business and make it smarter for the future. We’ll introduce you to our modern programming languages, cloud platforms and DevOps practices and show you how software engineering shapes the future of investment management. You’ll have the opportunity to touch a wide range of tech, possibly including .NET, Angular, Azure Service Bus, Docker and Microservices Architecture, to name a few, as well as getting to grips with Agile methodologies in a business setting – think scrums and sprints!
Our Innovation department pushes the boundaries of what is possible with disruptive tech and grapples with deeply interesting problems. We work with a broad range of tech, including Python and platforms like PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face, etc. Gen AI, LLMs, CI/CD, containerisation and cloud!
This programme allows you to work across the whole software development lifecycle as you learn about our technology teams and Baillie Gifford as a firm. You’ll discover how technology drives the business forward in the fast-evolving investment management industry.
Your internship will start with structured overviews that introduce you to our business. Following induction, you and your fellow interns will work together on a live technical project(s) for the firm. We’ll ensure you spend quality time with our experienced technical and business leads, who will share their knowledge and support you throughout the process.
Running alongside your project, you will have various development opportunities with other teams in the Shared Services departments to ensure the broadest exposure to the range of different careers possible in tech. During your first weeks, you will build relationships and learn about the tech we use, which will feel very different to the learning opportunities that university life provides. You’ll also learn more about our Agile working environment and see how different teams put Agile methods into practice from our project managers.
We will give you complete work experience to help you decide whether a career in technology is right for you. You’ll get the training and support you need to broaden your skills, establish your career path and discover your future potential.

If you are happy to be considered across all programmes, please select that you have no preference. Note – Baillie Gifford will make the final decision on where we feel your skills would best align team-wise, and this would be discussed with you ahead of an offer, if this isn’t your stated preferred option.
To apply, you will share your CV and complete a short questionnaire and a couple of scored questions. We encourage you to carefully consider the scored questions and use the word count provided.
Like you, we are fans of generative AI. We embrace innovation, but we also value authenticity. Your application form is your chance to shine. We are happy for you to use it responsibly as a tool to generate and communicate your ideas clearly, but don’t expect it to do the heavy lifting for you. We’re interested in your thought process, not AI polish.
Please note that, due to the programme's short-term nature, Baillie Gifford cannot sponsor visas. All applicants must have the right to work in the UK to be considered for the programmes. Our internship is based in Edinburgh, and due to its short duration, it is an on-site opportunity. Applicants must be comfortable being based in Edinburgh for the duration.
