The post-holder will lead a team of full-time and part-time residential staff, providing support to residential students attending programmes of rehabilitation, continuing education and/or vocational training.

The post holder will work in collaboration with the Home Manager and Residential Services Manager to manage the everyday operations of the residential home.

Key Responsibilities

·         Support the Home Manager in ensuring that the service is Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well Led and in compliance with CQC Regulations in relation to the Health & Social Care Act. To keep up to date with CQC Regulations and to support with CQC inspections.  

·         Support with managing a team of full time and part time staff to ensure all supervisions & appraisals are complete. 

·         To support the Home Manager with carrying out staff induction, training, performance management and development plans. To play an active role in developing the skills of the staff team. To ensure that staff are appropriately trained for designated tasks.

·         Keep up to date with any significant changes in the student’s situation within the residential home and other provisions with reference to the staff team, relevant meetings, care log, communications book, care plans, targets, and student reviews.

·         Support with initial and on-entry student assessments, ensuring that all collated information is reflected in the student’s care plan and set targets. 

·         Supervise staff to record Student’s progress within the colleges systems and complete biannual reviews of progress.  Support with student review and transition meetings.

·         Support the staff team with activity planning in accordance with students planned targets, ensuring all necessary risk assessments are completed to a high standard. 

·         Encourage integration and inclusion into the wider social community. Supporting the residential service with wider community schemes. 

·         To support the Home Manager with the management and prevention of any incidents occurring within the home, ensuring appropriate action has been taken and followed up. 

·         To support the Home Manager with ensuring effective positive support plans are in place as required. To support the staff team with behaviour management on shift. 

·         To assist during internal and external audits of the home.

·         To have a good working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act and to support with Mental Capacity Assessments/ DOLs/ Best Interest meetings.

·         Maintain quality communication with families, health professionals, external agencies and other internal departments to ensure optimum student experience. To also ensure overall effective communication is taking place within the staff team. 

·         Ensure that all medicines are administered as directed/prescribed and in accordance with QAC’s medication policies. Support the staff team with following the medication policy and health protocols. Complete staff’s ‘in house’ medication training. 

·         Ensure the health and safety of staff and students. Ensure compliance/application of the health and safety policies within the residential homes. Ensure completion of health and safety checks and risk assessments as required.
 
·         Devise, develop and maintain effective record systems to a quality standard which complies with internal and external regulations.
 
·         To support the Home Manager with ensuring the rota meets service needs. Cover staff absence as required, act as a point of contact for the RSW team, and support the ‘shift leads’.  To complete house rota in Home Manager’s absence. 

·         Respond flexibly to timetable or rota requirements (including completing one sleep in per week) - i.e. occasional cover for sickness or holidays of colleagues and devise cover for sickness or holidays of colleagues.

·         Perform such other duties commensurate with the status of the post as the Principal shall from time to time decide.
