Wilson Engineers has a staff of more than 200 personnel specializing in water and wastewater engineering and construction.  The Project Accountant plays a key role in the project life cycle by managing project financial setup and maintenance, client billing, and tracking accounts receivable.  This is a full-time position in our Tempe, AZ office with the Project Accountant working closely with Project Managers and the Finance team to ensure timely and accurate client billing, proper coding of subcontractor invoices and cash receipt processing.  

We are seeking an experienced Project Accountant to join our team. This position requires 40 hours per week in our Tempe office. (This job is not remote nor hybrid.)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support Project Managers in managing the financial aspects of multiple project assignments.
  • Assist in project setup based on contract terms, including the proper configuration of billing terms, rate tables, and FASB ASC 606 revenue methods.  Ensuring expenses and subcontractor breakdowns are accurately captured in the project setup.
  • Manage the budget, billing and project invoices; preparing client invoices in accordance with contract terms and billing cycles, ensuring change orders and amendments have been properly recorded, and the billing of labor and expenses is accurate.  Maintain organized billing documentation and correspondence.  
  • Receive, code, and route vendor and subconsultant invoices for approval. Verifying invoices are in alignment with project budgets and contract terms.
  • Investigate and work with Project Managers to address any WIP and Accounts Receivable issues.
  • Manage project closeout activities including final billing and AR reconciliation.
  • Analyze project metrics and report the financial status of assigned projects monthly.

Requirements

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business, financial or related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 2+ years of managing an accounting function in a medium- or large-sized company.
  • Experience in the Architecture/Engineering consulting industry is highly desired.
  • Proven experience managing medium-to-large-scale projects with changing scope, timelines and consultants.
  • Knowledge of Deltek Vantagepoint or Deltek Vision software is a plus.
  • Above average working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
