Description
Purpose: To prepare a wide variety of baked goods and confections including: breads, cookies, cakes, puddings, etc. To help keep the bread and pastry units fully stocked and appealing at all times. To create a hospitable environment that welcomes coworkers, customers, owners, and members of the community.

Status: Level II, Support Staff, Supervised by Bakery Manager
Responsibilities:
CUSTOMER SERVICE
- Assist customers with product questions in a prompt, and courteous manner, referring them to other staff when necessary.
- Ability to work independently while also working as part of a team to develop a hospitable department space that feels welcoming to all.
- Knowledgeable about all Bakery products.
- Help customers place special orders.
PRODUCTION BAKING
- Prepare bakery offerings based on daily productions lists to provide both variety and consistency
- Assist in researching and developing new recipes.
- Prepare breads and pastries according to established recipes.
- Clean and maintain work areas, utensils, and equipment.
- Bring day-to-day problems and needs concerning equipment and food supplies to the management team.
- Complete production sheets and other records as required.
- May be required to prepare baked goods for special diets.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
STOCKING & MERCHANDISING
- Replenish and rotate displays.
- Receive and stock ingredients and other supplies as needed.
- Dispose of damaged or spoiled goods appropriately (compost whenever possible).
- Remove trash, clean cases, keep prep and storage areas clean and orderly.
- Label products with appropriate PLU, and allergens.
DEPARTMENT MAINTENANCE
- Assist in ensuring food prep and storage areas are maintained in sanitary, orderly condition meeting health department standards.
- Follow department guidelines for proper storage and labeling procedures.
- Assist in maintaining department equipment in working order.
- Follow department guidelines for proper lifting techniques.
- Be mindful of potential hazards to customers and employees. Report potential hazards to management.
SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Follow GreenStar’s safety rules.
- Assist other employees in safety needs.
- Report unsafe equipment and conditions.
- Participate in safety training programs.
- Perform other tasks as assigned to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
STOREWIDE AND OTHER DUTIES
- Attend Human Resources trainings, all-staff meetings, department meetings, and OBM Huddles to stay informed.
- Support on-the-job training of new staff.
- Read GreenStar publications to stay informed.
- Respect and comply with storewide personnel policies.
- Adhere to scheduled shifts.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Previous production baking and decorating experience.
- Communication – effective interpersonal communication with team members.
- Demonstrated ability to follow through on commitments.
- Open to input/feedback on work performance.
- Open to giving input/feedback on Bakery department.
- Self-Driven/Motivated throughout shift.
- Knowledge or interest in learning about natural foods, local vendors, local farms.
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple demands, stay calm, and prioritize.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
