Position: Assistant Professor of Exercise Science

Position Summary:
This is a full-time on campus and in person faculty position set to begin in Fall 2026 (would consider a January 2026 start date). The Department of Exercise Science within the College of Arts & Sciences at Campbell University invites applicants for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor. The area of specialization is open, but should preferably align with, or complement existing departmental expertise with qualifications to teach in at least two the following areas: biomechanics, motor learning, anatomical kinesiology, exercise physiology, strength and conditioning, human performance, and sport management.
The successful candidate is expected to teach 12 hours each semester, advise and mentor undergraduate students, engage in scholarly activities, and support the Christian mission of the university. Teaching experience, commitment to excellence, innovation in teaching, and an appreciation for liberal arts education and support for the Christian Mission are required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Ability to support the Christian Mission of Campbell University: To graduate students with exemplary academic and professional skills who are prepared for purposeful lives and meaningful service
Provide expertise for the department in area of specialization
Ability to demonstrate quality teaching in face-to-face courses is required, experience with online modality a plus
Develop and implement curriculum, inclusive of departmental learning objectives, for in-person instruction, support assessment
Evaluate student work, administer tests, assignments and other exercises that permit measurement of knowledge, abilities, and/or performance relative to the course learning objectives
Support student accommodations outlined by Office of Student Success, Disability Services
Complete student record keeping in a timely and accurate manner, including grades and attendance
Administer final exams according to university guidelines
Post grades as required by Registrar following procedures and policies
Maintain timely communications with students and staff
Interact with students in a positive manner, listen effectively, field questions pertaining to subject matter
Continued research, conference presentations, and publication in the specialty field are encouraged and expected
Potential to collaborate with the Advanced Interdisciplinary Movement Science (AIMS) Laboratory housed in the Department of Physical Therapy at Campbell University’s College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences (CPHS)
Service to the department in advisement, recruitment, and university committee assignment and other departmental shared priorities
Participate in departmental, faculty and staff meetings as required
Exercise independent judgment and maintain strict confidentiality
Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor
Uphold and abide by Campbell University policies and procedures, including, but not limited to; Title IX, Information Security, FERPA, and other state and federal regulations
Other duties, responsibilities and activities as assigned
Education/Experience:
Earned doctorate in Kinesiology or related discipline. ABD and master’s level applicants may be considered
Demonstrated teaching experience at university level required
Areas of secondary specialty could include sport management and sport history
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to teach in a rapidly changing writing environment
Ability to communicate effectively to colleagues outside of specialization and collaborate effectively
Strong computer skills and the ability to learn, utilize, or adapt to new and emerging technology
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Outlook, and common methods of digital communication including web/text/chat platforms
Commitment to professional development and engagement in the specialization
Knowledge of Blackboard Ultra Learning Management System or ability to learn Blackboard
Ability to adapt to changing student needs
Demonstrate tact, a positive attitude, courtesy and discretion in dealing with, faculty, staff, students, university officials, and the public
Exercise independent judgement and maintain strict confidentiality as necessary
Ability to work independently as well as function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people
