Who you are:
We are always looking for amazing talent who can contribute to our growth and deliver results! Geotab is seeking an Embedded Developer Intern who will be responsible for understanding Geotab devices, implementing new logic for a test automation framework using various programming languages (Python, C, SQL, RUST), and working with Cloud APIs, hardware setups, embedded devices, Python tools, and data mining, while collaborating with development and test teams. What you'll do:
As an Embedded Developer Intern your key area of responsibility will be understanding Geotab devices like GO and IOXes, working on implementing new logic for test automation framework primarily in Python, C/C++, SQL and possibly RUST. You will work in many areas of focus including interacting with Cloud APIs, hardware setups, Raspberry Pi based C code framework, Bare metal firmware C code, Linux based embedded devices, Python based tools and data mining for various dashboarding. You will need to work closely with your colleagues on the Embedded Development team, as well as Software development and test development teams - as needed.
To be successful in this role, you will have a keen interest in learning firmware test automation principles, details to consistently adhere to coding standards and be inquisitive. In addition, successful candidates will have strong communication skills, in their technical documentation, collaboration with teammates, and with providing technical support to other Geotab teams.
The opportunity:
- 8 - 16 month work-term beginning January 2026.
- Full-time, paid internship: Monday - Friday, 37.5hrs/week.

How you'll make an impact:
- Develop an in-depth understanding of the GO and IOX device functionality and how all the devices work with various other modules.
- Write SQLqueries and python scripts to interact with Google BigQuery to determine device health and effectiveness of various functionality.
- Be able to write unit and integration tests. Perform system-level testing using test automation framework, extend the test suite as required.
- Build, maintain, and enhance tools that streamline and automate all forms of testing relevant to the feature or product using C, C++, python, pytest, SQL, REST APIs and other relevant technology/tools.
- Manage test coverage, test environment creation, and maintenance.
- Develop tools and dashboards for the analysis of device data and behavior.
- Stay current with new embedded development and testing technologies.
What you'll bring to the role:
- Completing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer engineering or other related fields.
- Strong knowledge of various programming languages in embedded software development context.
- Strong knowledge of either C, C++, RUST and Python.
- Familiar with SQL and databases/queries.
- Familiar with OS concepts, data structures, algorithms, design patterns commonly used in Embedded system development.
- Linux development and knowledge is an asset.
- Strong team player with the ability to engage with all levels of the organization.
- Strong interpersonal relationship building skills.
- Technical competence using software programs, including but not limited to, Google Suite for business (Sheets, Docs, Slides).
