Your mission, roles and responsibilities
Our Clean Mobility Division is looking for Material Engineer for its tech center in Columbus, IN. The Material Engineer is responsible Tto support the product design, development and validation. Apply metallurgical engineering fundamentals and standard methodology to evaluate, analysis, testing & reporting of the material and/or product test sample. Analyze data and author technical reports. Work within a team to facilitate continuous improvement of testing processes and data quality.
Main Mission:
• Communicate with customers (internal & external) as needed to insure effective and efficient completion of testing objectives.
• Complete work requests on-time and assist supervisor in maintaining accurate work order status.
• Supports development and validation of manufacturing processes.
• Evaluate materials to establish their compliance with internal and industry specifications.
• Assist in preparation of samples for failure analysis to determine the root cause for product failure.
• Assist in analyzing parts non-destructively by operating Computed Tomography Imaging system and post processing 3D reconstructions using post processing softwares.
• Analyze test results to ensure that the data is valid and that the test was in conformance with all applicable standard methods.
• Generate comprehensive test reports that document results & conclusions, reference applicable standards and provide part/project traceability.
• Maintain orderly operation and/or calibration of all fixtures and equipment as needed or required by the manufacturer.
• Promote & maintain an organized work environment per company policy.
• Apply safety standards in everyday work activities per company policy.
Your profile and competencies to succeed
The ideal candidate will have/be:
- BS/MS in Metallurgical engineering or Materials Science and Engineering or Mechanical engineering
- +5 years of Materials analysis experience
- Education or experience must include: Evaluation of welding processes for stainless steel alloys and root cause analysis for ductile, brittle and fatigue failures.
- Proficient oral & written communicator, computer skills, effective problem solving, mechanical & electrical aptitude.
- Position requires hands-on experience with: Optical microscopy, Scanning electron microscope, Energy dispersive X ray spectroscopy, Corrosion testing, Mechanical testing, and Microstructural characterization.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes utilized for fabrication of exhaust systems.
- Statistical analysis of data using Minitab i.e. (Capability analysis, Gage R/R, MSA, hypothesis testing, etc.)
